Meet Dani, a Mass Communication major with dual tracks in Advertising and Public Relations 💻.

At TU, Dani juggles being a part of two organizations, having an executive position in her sorority, two jobs, a competitive class schedule and being president for the Advertising Federation TU, all while being a full time student!

She has had two internships, one with Gold Athletics as the digital marketing intern and the other at Tsao Baltimore Watch Company as the marketing and operations intern.

Dani says she became interested in mass communication after taking MCOM 101. She immediately knew she wanted to pursue the major for its creativity.

In her free time, she enjoys graphic design, video editing, thrifting, going on walks, spending time with her friends and family, and fostering cats through Maryland SPCA 🐈‍⬛.

Dani’s advice for students is to go for every opportunity,
“Do as much networking as you can and take any opportunity that is presented to you,” she says. “Say yes to things and go outside your comfort zone!”

Way to go, Dani! 🐯

Congratulations to our Department Chair, Dr. Spaulding, for winning Research Paper of the Year at the International Association of Literary Journalism Studies annual meeting in Nancy, France! Her paper is called “Reporters of the Natural World: The Baltimore Sun’s Burroughs Medal Winners”.

“I hope people come away with an understanding that, although it has taken different forms over time, journalism has long been interested in the environment and the natural world. We tend to think of the environmental movement as relatively contemporary, but it has much deeper roots.”

Dr. Spaulding says that it was very special to be recognized by her colleagues, especially because there was a lot of very interesting research presented at the meeting.

Well done, Dr. Spaulding! Go Tigers!🐯

Meet Ben Rosenbaum!

Ben is a Mass Communication graduate who turned his student passion into a leadership career right here at Towson University. While attending TU, Ben focused his studies on the journalism track, where a pivotal meeting with Professor Jenny Atwater connected him to an internship with the Towson Sports Network. That single opportunity set his entire career in motion. In a remarkable full-circle moment, Ben now serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Digital Media for Towson University Athletics, running the very department where his journey began.

His favorite part of the role is mentoring current students in a real-world setting and providing them with hands-on experience. He also loves calling live play-by-play for games and finding creative ways to tell the stories of Tiger student athletes.

For current MCOM students, Ben advises stepping out of your comfort zone: “Be open to potential skills or fields you never considered. I have had so many student-interns over the years who were sure they wanted to do one thing and then fell in love with doing something else. Experience as much as you can.”

Starting this Fall 2026, Ben began his Adjunct Faculty Era in the Mass Communication Department as he teaches a section of MCOM 402- Sports Journalism.
