We are saddened to learn of the passing of former State Senator Sandra Cunningham and extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the residents whose lives she touched throughout her years as a public servant.

Sen. Cunningham was a longtime champion of the state's higher education community and served for many years as Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee. While in this role, NJASCU worked closely with her on legislation working to expand access and affordability, improve student success and strengthen the higher education system.

Sen. Cunningham also recognized colleges and universities' contributions as employers, economic drivers, community partners, and cultural hubs. She understood that our public colleges and universities are not only educating students and preparing the workforce of tomorrow, but are vital to the communities they serve and to the economic well-being of our state.

We are grateful for Sen. Cunningham’s years of service and for her steadfast commitment to New Jersey’s students, higher education institutions, and communities.

Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time. May her memory be a blessing.

Of 500 institutions ranked, TCNJ placed No. 99 nationally — and No. 39 among public colleges and universities — largely on the basis of its strong student outcomes.

Yesterday was a jam-packed day at our annual retreat for our college presidents! We are grateful to all of our guest speakers, including the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of Higher Education, State COO, Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development, Chairwoman of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, and staff from our Congressional delegation. We had the chance to discuss important issues in public higher education, including affordability, funding, and workforce pipelines. Thank you to all who attended and made the event a success!
