Over the weekend, several Brothers from Mt. Zion Lodge joined the Old Seventeenth Masonic District for the annual planting of flags at Memory Gardens in commemoration of Memorial Day. Brothers and families from across the District came together, making it a meaningful and solemn morning of remembrance.

Thank you to the LCDR John E. Hart Masonic Veterans Post No. 70 for presiding over the ceremony, and to V∴W∴ Jim Cozzy for organizing this important event.

Following the ceremony, the Schenectady Masonic Temple hosted the Installation of Officers for the LCDR John E. Hart Masonic War Veterans Post No. 70. Congratulations to Mt. Zion’s own R∴W∴ Neil Bonesteel and Bro. Joe Stefanovich on being elected to Officer and Trustee positions. Your dedication and service make us proud.

May we always honor the memory of those who gave their lives in service to our nation, and may our actions continue to reflect the values they defended.

On this day in 1843, a National Masonic Congress opened in Baltimore, Maryland. Now referred to as the Baltimore Convention, it ran from the 8th to the 17th of May and aimed to gain concurrence on a uniform "mode of work" for Grand Lodges in the United States.

One of the most enduring outcomes of the Convention was the adoption of certificates of membership, or dues cards, which are still used throughout the United States today.

Today, a few Brothers from Mt. Zion Lodge No. 311 traveled to the Scottish Rite Museum in Lexington, Massachusetts, alongside Brothers from the Valley of Schenectady.

It was a day filled with light, learning, and Brotherhood. There was a wonderful lunch, followed by a guided tour through the museum’s rich history and symbolism. They were even honored with a visit from Sovereign Grand Commander Walter Wheeler.

Moments like these remind us of the strength of our fraternity. Traveling together, learning together, and celebrating the bonds that unite us across Lodges and Valleys.

A great day of fellowship, history, and Masonic pride.

Congratulations to our Mason of the Year Award winner, W:. Alexander Terpening.

W:. Xander is a pillar of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 311 and the Craft as a whole. Throughout the year he has not only stepped up, he has consistently gone above and beyond for the good of the Lodge. From mentoring our new Brothers during Sunday evening proficiency practices, to assisting with all of our charitable endeavors, to filling multiple roles whenever needed, his dedication has been unwavering.

W:. Xander is the kind of Brother who never needs to be asked, he sees the work and does it. Our Lodge is stronger, steadier, and better because of him.

We are deeply thankful for this worthy Brother and all he continues to do for Mt. Zion No. 311.

Today we had the privilege of passing three Brothers to the degree of Fellowcraft, and it truly was a meaningful afternoon for our Lodge. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their Saturday to be there and support these Brothers on their journey in the Craft.

What stood out most was the unity in the room. Every Brother in attendance played a part in the degree. Moments like this remind us how strong we are when we come together in Brotherhood.

This degree couldn’t have happened without each of you, and we're grateful for the dedication and spirit you brought to the Lodge today.

May we continue to walk together in harmony and Brotherly Love.
