Cauldron boil cauldron bubble...
Darron Todd's bluing class finished up on Friday. Here a student pulls a Marlin lever gun barrel and receiver from the bluing tank and into a cold water bath. Our short term classes are great for someone who wants to learn, but can't take 2 years away from their regular life.

Time to get in the way-back machine boys and girls...

Waaaay back in 2001, MCC Gunsmithing Director, Mark Dye, was working as a lowly gunsmith at Clark Custom Guns in Louisiana. (Anyone unfamiliar with Clark and what they did in the industry, particularly in the 1950's and 60's, should spend some time looking them up.) 2000 was the 50th Anniversary of Clark Custom, and a special run of 1911's was done for this anniversary. These guns sported Caspian damascus slides. They were done in the "Meltdown" style where all of the corners were intentionally turned into radii. It was an extreme version of breaking the corners for carry purposes. (It was cool with the tactical Teds of the late 1990's).

Mark got an email from the recent purchaser of this Clark Anniversary gun. They were looking to track down the gunsmith who did the work. Given the 5/2001 date, Mark would certainly have been the Gunsmith who did the work.

What a fun trip down memory lane! If you are at MCC sometime, be sure to ask Mark about getting to hang out with the Clarks and Miculeks in the late 90's and early 2000's.

A bluing class is running this week through our short-term Gunsmithing offerings. Instructor Darron Todd is walking students through the process of caustic salt hot bluing.

We are just over a month out from the Clays for Education Tournament at Hyatt Farms. This is a great day of fun, blasting clays with sh***uns! Come hang out with fun people, eat good food, shoot some clays, and stay for the nighttime cosmic clays. Reserve your spot for a team or individual shooter now. I hear a rumor that there will be a Benelli M2 sh***un up for grabs....

If you haven't played sporting clays before, it is like golf with sh***uns (which makes it 1000% more interesting). It is a great opportunity to support the MCC Foundation while doing something fun.

While the women enjoyed the training day last Saturday, there was a Men's Daycare going on in the background. The men forged railroad spike knives, shot on the range with OA Defense, ate tacos, and worked on grinding knives with Jones Brothers knives. It was a lot of fun, and it surely beats having to hold a purse all day!
