While there has been significant progress made in declining rates for HBV and HCV, both HBV and HCV are the most common cause of liver cirrhosis, liver cancer and viral hepatitis-related deaths.

Because of this, we aim to eliminate HBV and HCV from Arizona through improved prevention, accessible testing and treatment, and education.

Do you think you may have been exposed to HCV but are unsure due to not showing symptoms? Most symptoms develop 2-12 weeks after infection with the virus, but people with chronic HCV are usually asymptomatic, meaning they do not have symptoms. Be sure to get tested to prevent further spread of HCV and to seek treatment.

Chronic Hepatitis: Chronic Disease Awareness

When providers discuss about hepatitis B and C, they describe it as a "chronic" disease, but what does that mean.

Hepatitis B and C are viruses that can affect liver health for a year or more, which is what identifies these infections as "chronic". Without treatment, these conditions can lead to long-term liver damage such as cirrhosis and liver cancer.

For more:

HBV and HCV are viruses that cause liver disease. The symptoms may be the same. But they spread and are treated in different ways.
