For us "of the people" means our folks artists, performers, food vendors, volunteers, sponsors and more. But ultimately, it's only our beloved festival because of you and thousands of our neighbors who love Tucson!

New episode of JSW Radio 🌵🎙️

A burned-out cop, a dead horse, and nods to John Wayne and Waylon Jennings... welcome to Jonathan Danielson's Arizona. In this episode, Dr. Jennifer Jenkins talks with Danielson about his linked story collection The Lowest Basin: Arizona Stories and what it means to write Arizona regionalism for the 21st century, past the postcard version of the state.

The book's already picking up serious attention: longlisted for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize and named a 2026 Pima County Public Library Southwest Book of the Year. Arizona's Poet Laureate Alberto Ríos calls the stories "louder in the depths of the heart" than the Westerns that came before them.

At Quitobaquito Springs, an area of desert the size of three parking spaces is the entire known habitat of two species found nowhere else on Earth, and a second 30-foot wall, greenlit with no public comment, could destroy it for good.

Environmental groups are sounding the alarm over plans that threaten a desert spring that’s home to rare fish and turtles and sacred to the O’odham people
