Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDPs) at The University of Arizona Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDPs) at The University of Arizona have emerged in response to the changing face of scholarship and research.

The University of Arizona's Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDPs) transcend departmental boundaries by facilitating cutting edge teaching and research where traditional disciplines interface. Advances in science and technology, along with increased globalization, have altered the ways we perceive scientific and social investigation and education. We have come to recognize the need for crossing departmental boundaries in exploring more integrated approaches to problem solving.

The GIDP Administration Office would like to announce the First Annual Spring Student Mixer that will be held Friday, April 20 at Himmel Park, between 3:30 and 5:30pm. The event will be a potluck so please bring a dish if you can. We'll also announce upcoming leadership positions for students who might be interested in participating.

Our Genetics GIDP faculty member Dr. Daniela Zarnescu was featured in the UA News this past week. Included in the article is an informative video on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which features Genetics GIDP student Ernesto Manzo! We love to see our programs featured in the news!

Late last year, University of Arizona colleagues Daniela Zarnescu and May Khanna sped west on Interstate 8 bound for a brain-research conference in San Diego. Khanna is a biochemist who works with small molecules. Zarnescu is a molecular and cellular biologist who works with flies.

Congratulations to Joan Palmiter-Bajorek and Tim Frost (center) for making it to the Finals of the 2017 UA GradSlam! Joan presented “Pronunciation Technology: Clear Speech and Empowerment” and Tim presented "Accelerating drug discovery with microfluidic models" at the Semi-Finals. The Final Round will be held in Gallagher Theatre on April 4, 2017 at 5:30 PM.
