Join the Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program (IPLP) at the James E. Rogers College of Law for a lunchtime conversation about the University of Arizona’s ongoing collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on human rights accountability in protected and conserved areas.

The centerpiece of this collaboration is a global scoping study on grievance and redress mechanisms in protected and conserved areas, led by IUCN, funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and conducted in collaboration with the University of Arizona’s Indigenous Peoples and Protected Areas Initiative at IPLP.
Against a documented history of dispossession, forced eviction, and gender-based violence in protected areas, the study asks a fundamental question:
When harm occurs, can affected Indigenous Peoples actually obtain an effective remedy?
Speakers will discuss how this partnership came together, what the research is revealing, and how legal research and analysis conducted at the University of Arizona can inform and shape international conservation policy.
