Professor Robert Mundheim was recently awarded the University in Exile Award at the graduation ceremony of the New School for Social Research (NSSR). The Award was established to commemorate the founding of the University in Exile at NSSR in the 1930s to provide a haven for scholars at risk and to affirm the University’s commitment to academic freedom, human rights and democracy.

Mundheim joined the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School's faculty in 1965 and served as dean from 1982 to 1989. He serves on the faculty at Arizona Law, where the Robert Mundheim Professor of Law and Business chair was created in his honor.

Last week, Dean Jason Kreag and Senior Director of Student Resources Chris Gast met with the Consul General of Mexico in Tucson Fernando Sánchez Roldán and Deputy Consul Lee Wong to celebrate Arizona Law’s ongoing partnership in training members of Mexico’s foreign service in U.S. law. Originally started in 2018, this year will feature the 9th cohort who will join nearly 350 prior graduates.

Earlier this summer, faculty from the Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program led several important events and trainings and participated in high-level consultations with United Nations officials at the most recent convening of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII). As part of the UNPFII, Arizona Law IPLP faculty hosted two official UN side events.

Congratulations to the Daniel F. Cracchiolo Law Library, recently announced as the winner of an American Association of Law Libraries 2026 Advocacy Award. They were named this year’s Public Access to Government Information Award recipient for their Navajo Nation Department of Water Resources Library Preservation Project Team.

The Advocacy Award recognizes outstanding contributions to advancing access to government information and strengthening the public’s right to know, as well as exemplary advocacy efforts in support of libraries and intellectual freedom. More on the award:

The Public Access to Government Information Award is given to recognize persons or organizations that have made significant contributions to protect and promote greater public access to government information.
