Scenic Designer and TFTV Asst. Prof. of Practice Apollo Mark Weaver talks about his design process for HEAD OVER HEELS:

"Head Over Heels is an unusual show in that it has script influences everywhere from ancient Greece to the present, including 80s Go-Gos music and English Renaissance drama ... Finding a visual style that could hold all of that was very important. I landed on Art Nouveau as a visual touchstone, a style with both classical and modern influences knitted together with a whimsical elegance."

On his favorite part of the HEAD OVER HEELS design:

"As an educator, I always love the opportunity to work with a student assistant on a show. In this case, the collaboration with Asst. Designer Camryn Lang was fantastic, and Camryn’s influence on the graphic style of the show has been profound. I am very fond of the images they created for the floor and panels on the show."

Did you spot any familiar faces this weekend at the 75th Annual Tony Awards? We did!

After the company of Paradise Square on Broadway performed during the show, the cast and crew were shown backstage with Ariana DeBose, the evening's host. In the segment, TFTV alum and Paradise Square stage manager Christopher Anaya-Gorman (BFA, '09) was front and center while DeBose took a moment to acknowledge his work and all Broadway stage managers whose work is essential to a production's success. PARADISE SQUARE was nominated for 10 Tony awards, including best musical, and lead Joaquina Kalukango took home the Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.

We love seeing the behind-the-scenes production members receive much deserved recognition, and we are so proud to see Wildcats out in the world following their passions.

Congratulations to Christopher, the entire company of Paradise Square, and everyone in the industry who work to make the magic happen - on the stage and behind it!

⚔ THIS WEEK ⚔

Shakespeare and ... zombies? 🧟

Living Dead in Denmark, the new production from UA Arizona Repertory Theatre, is an action-adventure/horror/comedy sequel to Shakespeare’s HAMLET. Set five years after the events of the original, the undead have risen to power and are trying to take over the world, led by the zombie lord and true king of Denmark. Fortinbras, assembling a formidable opposition, has resurrected the corpses of some of the greatest women that Shakespeare had to offer: Lady Macbeth, Juliet, and the very angry Ophelia. A clash of the undead titans ensues!

Using HAMLET as a jumping-off point, playwright Qui Nguyen throws in martial arts, horror movies, pop songs, puppetry, and comic books in a hilarious and witty play that's equal parts parody and valentine to Shakespeare.

Opens Thursday night and runs until March 20. Student discounts on tickets are available! Get yours at am.ticketmaster.com/uacfa/livingdeadindenmarktftv.
