Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project is a synergasia (collaboration) between The Ephoreia of Arcadian Antiquities and the School of Anthropology at the University of Arizona under the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies. Answering questions about the origins of Greek cult and Greek athletics are at the heart of the agenda of the project. Since 2004 the project has been working at

the site of the Sanctuary of Zeus with excavation beginning in 2006. After five years of study season, we are excited to recommence excavation. In addition, the project participates in the development of the Parrhasian Heritage Park, the first of its kind in Greece. The goal of the proposed park is to sustain the natural, cultural, and scenic resources in an area of cultural significance and rich archaeology while encouraging local communities to continue living and working within the protected landscape.
