Friday was another 5th Friday celebration at UTSI. We had some great bites to eat & played musical chairs, pin the tail on Smoky, frisbee toss, egg/ping pong ball races and topped it off with a highly compedative match of 3-legged races. Congratulations to all of the winners and to everyone who made us laugh!

Meet Roman Dial, an aerospace engineering student at UT Knoxville and one of our 2026 UTSI summer interns!

Roman spent his summer researching cavitation and materials for nuclear space propulsion, but he gained much more than technical experience. At UTSI, he was trusted with real ownership of a research problem, learned to communicate his findings and became even more interested in pursuing graduate school.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce you to more of the talented students who contributed to research across UTSI this summer.
