Last week, our undergraduate students explored effective practices for supporting English language learners in early childhood classrooms. Each group reviewed a section of the content, identified the key ideas, and shared their learning with the class through a creative little song!

We also explored how young children acquire English through different stages of language development and discussed how the language they use with friends may differ from the academic language needed for school success. Above all, children need time, encouragement, and meaningful conversations as they learn and grow.

It was such a joy to watch our students turn these concepts into songs. They brought warmth, creativity, and care to the way they shared what they had learned, demonstrating the kind of engaging, supportive teaching that helps young learners thrive.

Congratulations to JRCoE's Dean Stacy Reeder on being selected to be inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society Hall of Fame! This prestigious recognition celebrates Dean Reeder's outstanding leadership and lasting contributions to higher education through her scholarship, teaching, research, administration, outreach, and public service. Her dedication has made a meaningful impact on students, educators, and communities across Oklahoma while bringing distinction to the field of higher education. Dean Reeder will be formally recognized during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on November 2, 2026, at the Nigh University Ballroom at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
