Dr. Kasra Momeni is an associate professor at the University of Alabama Department of Mechanical Engineering. Multiscale Mechanics/Material Science and Materials Genome are his specialties. He develops a synergistic interaction among computation, experiment, and theory to design advanced materials with superior functionalities at a fraction of the cost and time-to-market. Specifically, he focuses on developing experimentally verified theoretical/numerical tools to understand materials' multiscale/physics responses. To achieve this goal, he is using atomistic-, meso-, and macro-scale models/simulations and atomic-resolution experiments, combined with machine learning models. Dr. S. Nima Mahmoodi is an associate professor at the University of Alabama Department of Mechanical Engineering. His area of research encompasses Automation, Robotics, MEMS and NEMS (Micro- and Nano-ElectroMechanical Systems), actuators/sensors, vibrations, and control. Currently, he is synergizing his experience in sensors and actuator control with new domains in machine learning and the Robotic Operating System (ROS) to apply them in smart manufacturing using robotic systems. Dr. Daniel J. Fonseca is an associate professor at the University of Alabama Department of Mechanical Engineering. With a broad spectrum of interests in the engineering field, his areas of focus include manufacturing systems and processes, systems simulation, industrial maintenance, intelligent systems, transportation systems, and knowledge engineering.
Currently, he is in charge of Initiative on Manufacturing Development and Education (IMaDE) lab as well as Senior Design program (https://me.eng.ua.edu/undergraduate/senior-design/)
