Thank you to all the participants of the many activities included in the Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine's (TUCVM) 2026 Tuskegee Savma (Student American Veterinary Medical Association) Week! Students in attendance received 1 SAVMA Point for each event. THE BREAKDOWN OF SAVMA WEEKâS ACTIVITES include the following:
Day 1 â August 17
Dean Gilbreath gave the Deanâs Address, from 12-1pm in the Patterson Auditorium in which students had the opportunity to hear directly from Dean Gilbreath about the current state of the college, receive important updates, ask questions, and share any concerns. Lunch was provided by the school.
Day 2 â August 18
Day 2 featured the AVMA Talk with TUCVM 2011 alum Dr. Lauren Rowe from 12-1pm in the Patterson Auditorium. Dr. Rowe focused on financial literacy in veterinary medicine. Dr. Rowe shared some helpful tips and gave information to help students feel more prepared when managing their finances during veterinary school, and as they begin their careers. Lunch from Popeyes was provided for those who signed up.
About Dr. Rowe:
She is the Assistant Director for Student Initiatives with the AVMA. In her position, she is responsible for overseeing, planning and administering AVMA support to the Student AVMA (SAVMA) and the individual SAVMA Chapters at the veterinary colleges. This is done by providing organizational support to assigned student chapters including on-campus visits, chapter guidance, educational resources, and additional services as needed. Also, staff support to assigned governance entities while assisting with the development, implementation, and ongoing support of current and new student programs/initiatives is provided.
Day 3 â August 19
Day 3 included two activities:
Activity #1 featured ALVMA speaker Dr. Tommy Poole. From 12-1pm in the Patterson Auditorium, students attended the ALVMA Talk with Dr. Tommy Poole who spoke about the Alabama American Veterinary Medical Association (ALVMA) student benefits and the resources available to students. Dr. Poole is the ALVMAâs Veterinary Student Relations Liaison. Lunch was provided from Moe's for students.
Activity #2 featured the SAVMA Career Fair with a Snow Cone Truck. For the Career Fair, from 4-6pm in the Patterson Hall Atrium, students came out and met veterinary professionals and organizations, explored career opportunities, and made connections that could help them prepare for their future in veterinary medicine. There were plenty of internships, externships, and job opportunities, so all students were encouraged to come by!
Day 4 â August 20
"We Are SAVMA Trivia" was a fun activity on from 12-1pm in the Clinical Anatomy Room 201. This event allowed students to come learn more about TUCVMâs SAVMA chapter, including information on membership, ways to get involved, benefits, and more. Their SAVMA knowledge was put to the test with some trivia and the top 3 winners won gift card prizes.
Day 5 â August 21
The Wrap up SAVMA week events included Chick-fil-A breakfast in the Patterson Hall Atrium from 7-8am sponsored by the AVMA for all students based on first come, first served, so they could grab something before class.
The concluding event: Country Club vs. Country Theme Party at Endzone from 7-11pm.
Outfit Ideas included:
Country Club: Polo shirts, pleated skirts, khakis, loafers, etc.
Country: Denim, boots, cowboy hats, plaid, fringe, etc.
