This spot has a piece of my heart. And a story worth knowing.

For over 35 years, this location on Chapman was Biblos Cafe, a family-run staple that fed this community for decades. When the original owners retired, their son Tim didn't gut it. He honored it, and built something new.

Baba G is clean, fast-casual, completely seed oil-free, and the best variety of vegetarian and vegan options I've found anywhere. My kids grew up eating food cooked by Tim's parents. Now I'm bringing them back to eat food Tim makes.

Rod's Liquor sat on this corner for over 70 years. Bosscat didn't erase that. They built on it.

The old oak floors became tabletops. The vintage neon signs stayed. The salvaged pieces from Rod's became the artwork. Twenty years in the making. Orange just said yes.

The City of Orange unanimously approved a brand new 11,000 square foot concrete skate park at Grijalva Park. Bowls, rails, stair sets, lighting, spectator seating. Breaking ground soon. And a shoutout to Contenders Boardshop for helping make it happen by donating five dollars from every pair of shoes sold.

Between the skate park, the new pickleball courts, and the year-round pool at Hart Park, this city is investing in the right things. This is what a community that takes care of its people looks like.

Over 50 years of memories. And it could all be gone for 36 townhomes.

The Holiday Skate Center officially closed its doors on August 3rd. The land lease wrapped up in 2023, and the multigenerational landowners are now petitioning the City of Orange to rezone the property for residential use.

The community pushed back fast. A petition gained thousands of signatures. But the City Council won't vote until this fall.

I sat down with my Seven Gables colleague Scott Sackin, a professional athlete fresh off a silver medal at Nationals, to break down exactly what happened and what comes next. California needs housing. But we also need to ask hard questions about what we lose in the process.

This Orange development has been debated for decades. Now it's finally being built.

Just east of Mabury Ranch near Santiago Canyon Road, DR Horton is moving forward with Mabury Estates. About 22 homes, 3,000 to 5,000 square feet, up to five bedrooms and three-car garages. The site is already being graded. Neighbors have raised real concerns about traffic, environmental impact, and construction disruption, and those conversations matter. At the same time, Orange, like the rest of California, is navigating hard questions about housing and growth.

I'll keep sharing updates as this project moves forward. Follow along for local news from a resident's perspective.
