From The Learning Center to Supplemental Instruction sessions, these student workers dedicated their time to helping classmates build confidence and succeed academically. Now, we’re spotlighting a few of the Falcons who made a difference this year. 🌟

👨‍🏫Student Worker Spotlight: Taylor James

Taylor James, a Media Studies student from Kearney, Missouri, served as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader for composition courses at ECC.
In his role, Taylor enjoyed helping students reach their goals while building connections through the classroom experience. ✍️

Outside of ECC, he practices Taekwondo and is currently a fourth-degree black belt working toward becoming an instructor.

Taylor credits ECC’s English department with helping shape his growth as both a student and a person.

“I would like a job that is not boring, where I get to have adventures.”

After ECC, he plans to attend the University of Central Missouri to study Digital Media Production, with the possibility of adding German as a second major.

Many of these student workers spent the year helping classmates succeed through tutoring, study sessions, and peer support in the classroom. As they move on from ECC, we wanted to celebrate the impact they made on fellow students. 🌟

📚Student Worker Spotlight: June Steinman

June Steinman, an Environmental Engineering graduate from Labadie, chose ECC because of its strong science and engineering programs and the opportunity to transfer to Missouri S&T.

As a student tutor for math and chemistry, she enjoyed helping students work toward their academic goals while building confidence in the classroom. ✏️

Through tutoring, June discovered a passion for collaboration and leadership, skills that reinforced her interest in pursuing a career in engineering.

“Having to lead tutoring sessions allowed me to get outside of my comfort zone.”

Outside of ECC, June enjoys tennis, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. She plans to transfer to Missouri S&T to continue studying Environmental Engineering.

Through tutoring sessions, peer mentoring, and classroom support, these student workers helped fellow Falcons succeed all year long.
Now, we’re highlighting a few of the students who made an impact through their work in The Learning Center and as Supplemental Instruction leaders. 🌟

📚Student Worker Spotlight: Roxas Flaherty, Supplemental Instructor

Roxas first came to ECC because of the Fine Arts program before eventually switching majors to psychology. What made him stay was the sense of community he found on campus among fellow students and supportive staff.

He served as a Supplemental Instructor for sociology courses, leading group discussions and helping students connect with course material and one another.

Through the role, Roxas discovered a passion for building connections and creating spaces where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and perspectives.

“I’ve learned that the voice in your head that says you aren’t capable is a liar.”

Outside of ECC, Roxas enjoys drawing, writing comics, hiking, reading, movies, and video games. After ECC, he plans to continue studying psychology at Central Methodist University with the goal of becoming an art therapist. 🎨
