A one-size-fits-all approach rarely works. Effective fly management starts with an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy that combines cultural, biological, and chemical control methods.

So much to learn about tomatoes. 🍅

Earlier this week, the Lebanon County Master Gardeners hosted a hands-on learning experience focused on growing and enjoying tomatoes.

Attendees learned how to select tomato varieties, prepare for planting, support healthy plant growth, identify and manage common pests and diseases, and harvest tomatoes at peak flavor.

We also had our local health and wellness educators demonstrate how to prepare fresh bruschetta while sharing simple, healthful ways to incorporate colorful produce into meals.

The program brought together gardening and nutrition education to help participants make the most of fresh, homegrown tomatoes and other produce. It also provided an opportunity for Lebanon County seniors to connect with community resources, including Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers.

You're going to want to save this for later. 🥕🫑🍅

Here's how to make our version of crunchy vegetable wraps:

INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons cream cheese, low-fat
2 flour tortillas
1/4 teaspoon Ranch seasoning mix
1/4 cup broccoli (washed and chopped)
1/4 cup carrot (peeled and grated)
1/4 cup zucchini (washed and cut into small strips)
1/4 cup summer squash (yellow, washed and cut into small strips)
1/2 tomato (diced)
1/8 cup green bell pepper (seeded and diced)
2 tablespoons chives (chopped fine)

DIRECTIONS
1. Wash hands with soap and water.
2. In a small bowl, stir ranch seasoning into cream cheese; chill.
3. Wash and chop vegetables.
4. Steam broccoli in microwave for 1 minute with 1 tablespoon of water.
5. Spread cream cheese onto flour tortilla, staying one inch from edge. Sprinkle vegetables over cream cheese. Roll tortilla tightly.
6. Chill for 1 to 2 hours before serving (the wrap will hold its shape better). With a sharp knife, slice wrap into desired sections and serve.

We had a wonderful time at Nixon Park Nature Center, part of the York County Parks system and a valued Master Gardener partner!

Our York County Master Gardeners spent the day sharing the many benefits of native plants and showing how we could take inspiration from native plants thriving in natural spaces and bring those lessons into our own home gardens.

Participants learned about:
— Building a native flower meadow in the home garden 🌼
— Creating habitat for birds and why birds are important 🐦
— The benefits of incorporating native plants into our landscapes 🌱

There are no research-tested recipes for safely canning mashed or pureed pumpkin at home.

The thick consistency can prevent heat from reaching the center of the jar, creating a serious food safety risk.

The good news? Pumpkin puree can be safely frozen!

103 pounds and counting! 🥕🍅

The Lebanon County Master Gardeners, in collaboration with the local YMCA, are growing more than vegetables—they’re growing community.

Their community garden in downtown Lebanon, PA, has already produced more than 103 pounds of fresh produce this season. Seniors and youth groups are also pitching in, helping the Master Gardeners plant, tend, and harvest the garden.

And the harvest doesn’t stop at the garden gate. Produce goes to the YMCA for kids’ activity meals or to a local food bank, helping provide fresh, nutritious food to members of our community.

What a wonderful example of neighbors growing, giving, and working together.
