Looking back on an incredible year with the CSGD! 💫🌈

From community events and late-night conversations, to celebrations, performances, workshops, trips, and everything in between, it truly has been such a meaningful year at the CSGD. While these photos capture only a small piece of the joy, care, creativity, and connection that so many people helped create throughout the year, we will never forget all the incredible memories made. 🫶

We especially want to give so much love and appreciation to our amazing student workers. Your passion, humor, energy, creativity, and care shaped this center in countless ways, and we already miss you all so much! 💖 Thank you for everything you brought into this space and community!

And to all of the students, campus partners, performers, collaborators, organizations, and supporters who showed up for us this year - thank you, and so much gratitude to you all. Every event, conversation, and moment of connection was made possible because of this community.

Here’s to all the memories we made together and to everything still ahead ✨

Today, we recognize Harvey Milk Day in honor of Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States and a trailblazer in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

Harvey Milk believed in the power of visibility, community, and hope. Through his activism and public service, he advocated for equality, challenged discrimination, and encouraged LGBTQ+ people to live openly and authentically. His work helped pave the way for future generations of q***r and trans leaders, activists, and community members.

As we recognize Harvey Milk Day, we reflect on the progress made, honor the lives and voices that shaped the movement, and recommit ourselves to creating a more inclusive and affirming future for all LGBTQ+ people. 🏳️‍🌈

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Juniper Blessing.

Juniper was a beloved member of the University of Washington community whose passion for meteorology, music, and learning touched the lives of friends, classmates, and family in meaningful ways. She was known for her kindness, creativity, and the joy she brought into the spaces she entered.

As the University of Washington is now part of the Big Ten Conference, we also recognize that this loss is felt across our shared conference community. Here at Penn State, we hold space in solidarity with UW and with all Big Ten peers, understanding that moments like this remind us how interconnected our campuses truly are, even across distance.

We hold her memory with care, and we recognize the profound grief felt by those who knew and loved her. We also acknowledge the broader pain this loss brings to trans and LGBTQ+ communities, and to all who are grieving violence and young lives cut short.

In moments like this, care, solidarity, and continued commitment to one another remain important. We encourage anyone who is impacted to seek support and to connect with their communities.

Juniper’s life mattered, and she will be remembered with love and care.

If you or someone you know at Penn State is struggling, support is available through Penn State Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) or through our office, as well as other campus and community resources.

Yesterday, May 17, marked the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) 🌈

This day serves as a reminder of the importance of challenging discrimination, violence, and exclusion faced by LGBTQ+ people around the world, and of continuing to build communities rooted in care, dignity, safety, and belonging for all people.

At the CSGD, we recognize that visibility and celebration matter, but so does advocacy, support, and showing up for one another in meaningful ways every day of the year.

As we reflect on IDAHOBIT, we also want to recognize the strength, resilience, and joy of LGBTQ+ communities both on campus and beyond 💫
Everyone deserves to exist safely, authentically, and without fear.

🎤 Eurovision 2026 Watch Party & Conversation

Join the CSGD for a watch party of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest Final ☀️🎶 While we enjoy the performances together, we’ll also create space for conversation about Eurovision as more than a music competition—it is a cultural site where questions of identity, belonging, and visibility are actively negotiated, particularly in relation to q***r communities across Europe and beyond. 🌈

Alongside viewing the show, participants are invited to engage with q***r readings of Eurovision, including verilybitchie’s video essay and Catherine Baker’s article, “The ‘gay Olympics’? The Eurovision Song Contest and the politics of LGBT European belonging.” Together, we will reflect on Eurovision as both a space of celebration and a lens for thinking critically about inclusion, exclusion, and cultural belonging.

Closing out Pride Month 🌈✨

As we wrap up April, we’re reflecting on what it means to celebrate Pride here on campus. Pride for us was not just a series of events, but Pride served as a commitment to community, visibility, and connection.

This month has been filled with so many moments of joy, fun, reflection, and togetherness. From large celebrations like HUB Takeover and Lavender Recognition, to quieter spaces of conversation and care (such as Get OUTside for Pride), it’s been incredible to see so many people show up, support one another, and be part of something bigger! 💫

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, and looking back through these photos, we’re reminded of the many years of community, growth, and dedication that have shaped this space into what it is today.

Pride Month is for everyone - whether you attended events, supported from afar, came with friends, or showed up on your own. This community is built through all of those moments, big and small.

Thank you for celebrating with us, for being part of this history, and for helping carry it forward!

(Our Program Coordinator apologizes in advance to our AVP for the photos of him... they were just too good NOT to post 🫶)

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Get OUTside for Pride 🌿🌈✨

We’re so grateful to all of the students who spent the day with us taking a pause from end-of-semester stress, getting outside, and making space for reflection, connection, and community. It was so special to share time together surrounded by nature and joy 🫶

A huge thank you to our collaborators in Campus Recreation–Outdoor Adventures and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) for helping make this experience possible and for creating such a thoughtful, supportive space for students.

From mindful moments to adventure activities to simply breathing a little deeper outdoors, this day was a reminder of how important rest, community, and care can be 💫

Thank you for being part of it!

Today, while our Program Coordinator (and honorary Social Media Manager) is working from home, he is bringing you something truly special.

He decided this was the perfect moment to drop what might be the greatest post ever created: a carefully curated collection of songs performed - wittingly or unwittingly - by our very own Director, Sonya Wilmoth, throughout the academic year.

As many of you may already know (and if you don’t, you’re about to), Sonya has a well-loved habit of breaking into song in the office - sometimes softly, sometimes enthusiastically, but always filling the Center with joy, humor, and an undeniable soundtrack to our days.

When Patrick first joined the team, he started casually compiling a playlist of these musical moments. What began as a fun way to discover new artists and revisit old favorites quickly evolved into something much bigger: a 40+ song playlist of absolute bangers.

Today, we’re finally sharing it with all of you.
As the academic year winds down, this felt like the perfect way to celebrate the moments, the music, and the community that made it all memorable.

A few members of Core Staff may or may not have contributed their own musical “suggestions” along the way, and we hope you enjoy listening as much as we’ve enjoyed living it.

Here’s to joy in the everyday, spontaneous office concerts, and the playlists we didn’t know we needed.
