Law school is the prime time to start cultivating relationships with those who may be your future colleagues, clients, or bosses.

Rapid career advancement requires a good, hard look in the mirror. Here's how to put yourself under the microscope.

Dear 3L Students:
Not to leave you out of this conversation. Many of you are worried about finding that post-graduate job. The word for today is FOLLOW-UP. It's not enough to talk to members of your network once, find out that they aren't hiring and then never contact them again. Instead, you want to get into the habit of periodically following-up and updating members of your network with your new professional exploits. Use the skills you've developed while posting on Facebook (e.g., updates featuring each new life event) to update members of your professional contacts. Sometimes, you may need to go old-school and actually have a conversation with your contacts instead of e-mailing or posting. However, you do it, the Christmas break is a wonderful time to re-invigorate those professional relationships. Contact Career Services if you need any help...

Dear 2L Students: I had a conversation with one of your colleagues who seemed to be under the impression that they were late in the job search game for next summer because this student had not participated in on-campus interviews. In case any of you share those misgivings, let me assure you that you could not be further from the truth! As our Career Services timeline states, part of your job search strategy is to: know the hiring time-frames for employers you are targeting. (For example, big firms hire a year in advance, small firms hire a couple months, sometimes weeks, in advance.) In summary, you still got plenty of time. Get your application materials ready to make a big push over the Winter Break and stop in to see us if you need help.
