Happy World Biodiversity Day from UAB Sustainability! 🌿

May 22 is a global reminder to celebrate the rich variety of life on Earth and the vital role every species plays in our ecosystems.

Did you know Alabama is the most biodiverse state east of the Mississippi—and one of the top in the nation—with more than 6,350 native species? But there's a catch: Alabama also leads the country in extinction rates.

The solution starts with awareness. Explore local wildlife, learn what’s at risk, and find out how you can help protect it. A great first step: check out Alabama State Parks and Outdoor Alabama websites.

Sustainability can be everywhere! Check out some ways to make your workout greener!

• Switch from individually packaged and single-use items to reusable items in bulk packaging; it can really help cut down on plastic waste!
• Try running outdoors to reduce how much electricity you use and to get some fresh air!
• Instead of driving, try to incorporate running or biking into your commute as part of your workout!
