Members of the ASMC are participating in the 2022 Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Sustainable Intensification (SIIL) Annual Meeting - "Measurable Outputs and Impact Pathways" this week in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It has been great to share and observe all of the progress made in the past year by all SIIL Projects and Consortia.

Here is a great webinar series to check out!
The ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss will be kicking off a 3-part series to celebrate their 10th anniversary. The first webinar will take place on January 27th. It is titled "Enabling Successful Scaling of Postharvest Loss Innovations." Dr. Md. Monjurul Alam will be featured on a panel at this webinar, along with Dr. Kerry Clark from the Soybean Innovation Lab, and Isaac Sesi, CEO of Sesi Technologies.

We are excited to see the great things that will result in the launching of Smart Agro-Technology Innovation Youth Network (SAIYN). The vision of SAIYN is to be a driving force to connect teenagers and youths around the globe to be future leaders in smart and innovative agro-technologies, engage and empower them to nurture their capabilities, and contribute to positive agricultural transformation.

The ASMC Phase II Inception Meeting was held on June 15th, 2021 with an attendance of more than 50 participants from around the world. Project Leaders from Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cambodia and Senegal presented their accomplishments and planned activities.

We also had a presentation from Dr. Vara Prasad, the Program Director for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification at Kansas State University. The keynote speech of the meeting was given by Dr. Robert Easter, University of Illinois President Emeritus.

We are proud to share that Professor Gajendra Singh, a chair of the ASMC Science Committee, is presenting "Agricultural Mechanization in Asia: Trends, Patterns and Prospects" at the UIUC ABE I4 Seminar on April 16th. Professor Singh is very well-known for his scholarly work all over Asia and America in Agricultural Engineering, specifically in mechanization. Professor Singh's biography and presentation abstract can be found in the flyer below. We hope that you will be able to join!

While many members of ASMC were attending the SIIL Annual Meeting, our partners in Bangladesh were hard at work. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), under the technical advice of the Appropriate Scale Mechanization Innovation Hub (ASMIH)- Bangladesh began synchronized transplanting of rice paddy at Dumuria, Khulna on January 28th, 2021 with a target of transplanting 50 acres. Even in the midst of a pandemic, our partners in Bangladesh have been making great progress. Enjoy the pictures they have shared with us.

The 2021 SIIL Annual Meeting took place virtually on January 26th through January 28th. Approximately 100 researchers, students, and management personnel from around the globe participated in the conference. Thank you to USAID for their support and a special thanks to the SIIL Management Team for putting together such a spectacular 3-day event. Despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19, we are excited to keep working together toward a food secure world with all our SIIL partners.

The ASMIH-BD Virtual Annual Workshop 2020 was held on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020. The workshop was presented by the USAID funded, Feed the Future project "Appropriate Scale Mechanization Innovation Hub (ASMIH)-Bangladesh" led by Professor Dr. Md. Monjurul Alam, Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh. The theme of the workshop was Appropriate Scale Mechanization: A Key to Sustainable Food Security in Bangladesh. The Honorable Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, MP, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was in attendance. Thank you to Dr. Chayan Kumer Saha, Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh, for facilitating the discussion and introducing all speakers. The workshop was very well attended with numerous special guests. A special thank you to Dr. Vara Prasad, SIIL, KSU and our very own Dr. Prasanta K. Kalita for their remarks.
