The Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library (SSHEL) provides consistent, high quality research and instructional services to students and faculty in the Departments of Anthropology, Asian American Studies, Economics, Geography & Geographic Information Science, Gender and Women's Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology; the College of Applied Health Sciences; College of Educat

ion; School of Labor & Employment Relations; School of Social Work; and the School of Information Sciences, as well as to other members of the community. SSHEL develops and maintains subject-specific and special collections in a variety of formats to support the present and future information needs of these programs and related departments. Using an array of technologies and resources, SSHEL serves as a gateway to information for researchers on campus and at a distance. In conjunction with the mission of the University and Library policies, SSHEL extends its collections and services to individuals in the State of Illinois and beyond.

SSHEL will be open for summer hours starting on May 18. We are open during the following times:
Monday-Friday 8:30am to 6:00pm
Saturday-Sunday 1:00pm to 5:00pm

This month's display in SSHEL celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. This year's theme emphasizes the importance of telling AANHPI stories, being bridge builders in the community, and leveraging collective power. It includes books with AANHPI voices for a variety of reading levels and genres.

This week is Children's Book Week, running from May 4 until May 10! Children's Book Week is a celebration of young readers, books, and the connections made that foster a love of reading. This year's theme is "Books: Get Curious" and is all about how we can encourage and help develop children's curiosity.

There are several resources to use to get involved, including coloring pages, make-your-own bookmark cutouts, ways to celebrate or host your own events, and a reading club for readers of all ages!
