Feeling World Cup fever? As the game of soccer (or football) grows in the U.S., more fans are experiencing the excitement and controversies that accompany the world's most popular sport. Was that the right call? Who is the best team? Who is the greatest player? Why didn't that goal count?
Video Assistant Referee, or VAR as it's more commonly known, has been one of the sport's most controversial additions of the last decade. Despite being designed to make matches fairer and decisions more objective, VAR has become increasingly unpopular — and has been making headlines this summer as a result of several controversial and consequential decisions.
Communication professor Ned O'Gorman weighs in on what author Nick Greene calls "transparency theater" in Greene's book "How to Watch Soccer Like a Genius: What Architects, Stuntwomen, Paleoanthropologists, and Computer Scientists Reveal About the World's Game."

In CMN 212 Intro to Organizational Communication, you'll discover how information is communicated within an organization to get everyone working toward the same goal. Learn how different ways of managing an organization can impact decision-making, power dynamics, behavior, and more.
