What an unforgettable day at Monmouth Classics Day 2026! 📜✨
Huge thanks to Monmouth College for bringing this event to life. One day, countless ideas, and one incredible team who left their mark with their innovative and immersive activities. Our two three-year graduate students Margarita Pyrgali and Maria Moulita, under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Leon-Ruiz, proved that antiquity is more than just reading textbooks. Drinking games (kottabos), a WHOLE mini OIKOS (modeled after the actual House of Mosaic in Eretria!) and 3D printed drinking vessels are a few of the FANTASTIC activities they planned for the day.

A select group of students had the opportunity this spring to enjoy not only the breathtaking scenery of Greece, but also to immerse themselves in Greek athletic culture, following its traces from the Bronze Age to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, under the instruction of Prof. Daniel William Leon Ruiz. Food, music, material culture, interactive learning and much more accompanied each day while the students explored how sports intersect with topics like gender, identity, and economics in Mediterranean societies. Special thanks to the EU Center, LAS International Programs, ASCSA and Greek Studies on Site for their support.

Who says time travel doesn’t exist?

On April 20th, a group of our dynamic LAT 102 students embarked on an extraordinary journey to the past through the "Past Forward" program, exploring life in 1st-century Pompeii, Rome, Hispania, and Britannia before returning to share their experiences. Their instructor, graduate student Eleonora Mylli, then interviewed students about their travels, giving participants a chance to reflect and discuss their discoveries with classmates and attendees.
