Who has the biggest crayfish catch? ๐Ÿฆž After pulling an absolute monster out of a creek in Kentucky, Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences's Caitlin Bloomer had to know. She convinced museums around the country to measure specimens in their collections, coming up with a top 20 (her monster made the list).

More important than bragging rights, the friendly competition revealed gaps in biologists' understanding of these common but ecologically important creatures, suggesting new research directions for future study.

ACES alumnae, Pear Tree Estate owners, and sisters Annie Murray Easterday and Lauren Murray Miller have created a home away from home, turning strangers into family and passion into place.

Their passion, love, and expertise for food and hosting were built on their family farm just four miles south of Pear Tree, an event space that serves gourmet food and beverages.

The beauty of Pear Tree is more than the surrounding nature and the stunning tablescapes. It is in the way Annie and Lauren treat people. The lessons taught in the Murray house are alive and well each time someone from the community steps inside Pear Tree. A friendly face and a few treats are always waiting to make this place a home to all ๐Ÿค

Natalie Beltran, is majoring in agricultural and consumer economics. She has been involved in various campus organizations and is hoping to pursue a career in law and policy. She believes the University of Illinois has shaped her into someone she could not have imagined becoming, offering opportunities for growth, both personally and academically.

Gabriel Lee, is studying engineering technology and management for agricultural systems, with a concentration in energy & environment & minor in business. As a first-generation college student, Lee believes his selection to Homecoming Court reflects the transformative power of the Illinois experience, and he hopes his journey encourages other first-generation students to pursue every opportunity Illinois offers.

Agriculture is one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States, and accidents lead to hundreds of fatalities each year. Researchers from the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering have developed an interactive dashboard that provides educators and researchers with detailed information on agricultural injuries in the Midwest.
