Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, September 9 will be Iowa’s Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer. Chris is also the Republican nominee for State Auditor. Chris Hagenow and John Hendrickson with Iowans for Tax Relief will also explain and discuss the proposed constitutional amendment that will be on this November’s ballot. Its passage will increase the number of votes necessary to raise our taxes.
Chris Cournoyer was appointed Lt. Governor by Governor Kim Reynolds in December 2024. Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, she was elected to two terms in the Iowa Senate, where she served as an Assistant Majority Leader and she represented Clinton, Jackson and Scott counties. She chaired the initial Technology Committee where she wrote and managed the legislation that made Iowa one of the first states to protect consumer data. Chris also chaired the Education Budget Committee and was Vice Chair of the State Government Committee. She also served on the Education, Natural Resources, Transportation and Ways and Means committees.
Before her election to the Legislature she was elected to two terms on her local school board and served as its President.
The Lt. Governor earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science from the University of Texas. She worked as a senior technology consultant for a Fortune 500 company and later served as a private technology consultant.
She also has served as a former Scott County reserve Deputy Sheriff.
Chris has four children and resides in LeClaire.
