Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, September 9 will be Iowa’s Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer. Chris is also the Republican nominee for State Auditor. Chris Hagenow and John Hendrickson with Iowans for Tax Relief will also explain and discuss the proposed constitutional amendment that will be on this November’s ballot. Its passage will increase the number of votes necessary to raise our taxes.
Chris Cournoyer was appointed Lt. Governor by Governor Kim Reynolds in December 2024. Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, she was elected to two terms in the Iowa Senate, where she served as an Assistant Majority Leader and she represented Clinton, Jackson and Scott counties. She chaired the initial Technology Committee where she wrote and managed the legislation that made Iowa one of the first states to protect consumer data. Chris also chaired the Education Budget Committee and was Vice Chair of the State Government Committee. She also served on the Education, Natural Resources, Transportation and Ways and Means committees.
Before her election to the Legislature she was elected to two terms on her local school board and served as its President.
The Lt. Governor earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science from the University of Texas. She worked as a senior technology consultant for a Fortune 500 company and later served as a private technology consultant.
She also has served as a former Scott County reserve Deputy Sheriff.
Chris has four children and resides in LeClaire.

Our Westside Conservative Club Speaker for Wednesday, September 2 will be Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith. Roby was elected Treasurer in 2022 when he defeated the longest serving State Treasurer in the United States. He is seeking his second term.
Prior to serving as Treasurer Roby served three terms in the Iowa Senate where he chaired the State Government Committee and also served on the Commerce, Ways and Means and the Rules and Administration Committees.
Before entering public service he spent almost a decade in the banking industry where he developed a strong foundation in financial management and fiscal oversight.
Roby is also an Eagle Scout.
He earned a Business Administration degree from Concordia University in Nebraska.
Roby and his wife Kari reside in Davenport with their four children.

Our September 9 speaker will be Iowa Lt . Governor and candidate for Iowa State Auditor Chris Cournoyer. Iowans for Tax Relief will also discuss the proposed Constitutional Amendment addressing tax increases that will be on our November ballots.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for this Wednesday, August 26 will be Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate. Pate is a nationally recognized expert on election law and ballot security. He is a past president of the National Association of Secretaries of State. Paul was Mayor of Cedar Rapids from 2002 to 2006 and prior to that served in the Iowa Senate. He was first elected Secretary of State in 1995. He was re-elected in 2014, 2018 and 2022 by increasingly larger margins.
Paul and his wife Jane reside in Linn County. They have three children Jennifer, Amber and Paul Jr.

Due to the upcoming election we have scheduled additional meetings for the remainder of the year. On Wednesday, September 2, our speaker will be Iowa Treasurer Roby Smith.
We will also meet on September 9 (Lt Governor and GOP nominee for Iowa Auditor Chris Cournoyer).
Additional meetings will be on September 23 and 30, as well as October 14, 21 and 28 with more possibilities being considered.

SPECIAL WESTSIDE CONSERVATIVE CLUB MEETING AND SPEAKER THIS WEDNESDAY, August 19, 7:15 AM, The Machine Shed Restaurant

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, August 19 will be Army Lt. General (ret) Michael Flynn. Flynn served over 33 years in the U.S. Army, Joint and Special Operations Forces, with multiple combat tours. His military career culminated as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency where he was our nation’s highest serving military intelligence officer. General Flynn has also served as President Trump’s Director of National Security.
An expert in diplomacy, statecraft, foreign policy, strategy and intelligence he has authored seven books, three of which were best sellers. General Flynn earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island. He has three Masters degrees (Golden Gate University (MBA) and from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (MMMS) and the Naval War College and an honorary doctorate.
General Flynn and his wife Lori have two sons, Michael and Matt and several grandchildren.

As we approach the upcoming elections, we are adding additional meetings to our regular schedule of second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Please add Wednesday, September 2, Wednesday, September 30 and Wednesday October 21. Additional dates may be added as we approach Election Day.
