Hinds Community College - Utica Campus The Utica Campus, founded in 1903, has a rich heritage and maintains its HBCU status and traditions.

Utica Junior College was founded in 1903 as Utica Normal and Industrial Institute. It is the oldest of the six campuses of the Hinds Community College District (HCCD). UJC merged with the HCCD in 1982 but retains its Historically Black College & University (HBCU) designation and traditions. The Utica Campus offers students a two-year educational experience comparable to the first two years of a four-year college. Students are paired with highly-trained professional instructors, small class sizes, and benefit from the close-knit, family atmosphere.

💗 On October 7, the Hinds CC Utica Campus came together to raise awareness and show support during our Breast Cancer Awareness Walk! Led by Ms. Black Hinds County USA, Ayana Davis, students, faculty, and staff took steps toward promoting education, hope, and early detection.

A special thank you to St. Dominic Hospital for sponsoring the event and providing the iconic Big Pink Chair, which served as a powerful reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness and advocacy. Together, we walk for survivors, honor those we've lost, and support those still fighting. 🎀

Celebrating Cultural Diversity in the Sociology Classroom 🌎

On October 1, 2026, students in the Introduction to Sociology class at Utica had the opportunity to explore and celebrate the richness of cultures represented within our classroom and around the world.
Students shared cultural traditions and perspectives connected to Native American communities, Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, Hawaii, Nigeria, China, South Korea, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Pakistan, Egypt, Barbados, and Greece.

Through their presentations, students explored a variety of cultural elements, including customs, housing, transportation, rituals, climate, education systems, food, and music. This experience provided an engaging way for students to connect sociological concepts to real-world cultural experiences.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the activity was witnessing students demonstrate respect, curiosity, and appreciation for cultural differences. The classroom became a space where students could learn from one another, ask questions, and gain a greater understanding of perspectives beyond their own experiences.
Understanding and respecting different cultures are important components of building inclusive and connected communities. This activity encouraged students to look beyond unfamiliarity and recognize the value that cultural diversity brings to our society.

We are proud of Utica students for embracing this opportunity to learn, share, and celebrate the many cultures that make our communities and our world so diverse. 🌎❤️

A legacy that goes beyond the crown! 👑❤️

Our Former Miss Utica, Matysha Miller, surprised our Current Miss Utica, Jayla Snow, with a personal donation, showing that the title of Miss Utica is about more than a crown , it’s about sisterhood, support, and leaving a lasting impact. ✨

The crown may be passed down, but the love and commitment to uplifting the next queen will always remain. 👑❤️
