Guest Speaker Shares Multiple Sclerosis Journey with Nursing Students

Practical Nursing students at Southeastern Technical College’s Swainsboro Campus recently welcomed guest speaker Jacob Wedincamp, who shared his personal journey living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

As part of their study of neuromuscular disorders, students learned about MS signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and the challenges of living with the disease. Wedincamp shared his diagnostic lab work and MRI scans, giving students a firsthand look at the diagnostic process and connecting classroom learning to real-life patient experiences.

Wedincamp, the nephew of Practical Nursing Instructor Joanna Bell, emphasized the importance of recognizing symptoms, listening to patients, and providing compassionate care. Instructor Tiffany Brantley also participated in the learning experience.

The presentation gave students a valuable opportunity to see MS beyond the textbook and better understand the nurse’s role in patient education, support, and advocacy.

Born and raised in Emanuel County, Ryan has a heart for his community and a passion for helping students succeed. With nearly five years of experience teaching Business in higher education and a background as a former Director of HR, he brings professional experience and real-world lessons to the classroom.

Ryan says working at STC is an opportunity to give back to the community he loves while empowering students to reach their goals—academically and personally.

Blythe Wilcox, Executive Director of the Southeastern Technical College Foundation, will serve as Chair of the Chamber’s 2027 REACH program.

REACH is the Greater Vidalia® Chamber’s annual opportunity campaign, designed to help Chamber members strategically market their businesses by selecting Chamber programs, events, and sponsorship opportunities that align with their business goals.

“REACH gives our members the opportunity to be intentional about how they engage with the Chamber,” said Dana Brown, Director of Member Experience. “We are excited to have Blythe Wilcox leading this year’s campaign. Her leadership, community involvement, and commitment to the success of our region make her an excellent choice to chair the 2027 REACH program.”

Wilcox brings her experience with the Southeastern Technical College Foundation and her commitment to strengthening opportunities throughout the region to the role. Her leadership will help guide a team of volunteers in contacting chamber members throughout the selection process and highlighting the many ways businesses can get involved in the year ahead.

The 2027 campaign will launch on August 26, when current members will have the opportunity to renew their selected programs and events. Beginning September 9, all new and remaining opportunities will be open to Chamber members.

Swainsboro High School junior Zaylee Braddy has made school history as SHS’s first student to earn her Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) state license! 💛

Zaylee completed the year-long Accelerated Nurse Aide Program at EDGE College & Career Academy as a sophomore under the instruction of Leann Murray. The state-approved program combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience to prepare students to provide quality care in a variety of healthcare settings.

She also participated in the inaugural Summer Bridge Allied Health Program, a partnership with Emanuel Medical Center that gives students additional experience in the healthcare field.

Now a junior, Zaylee plans to continue her medical pathway and pursue phlebotomy.

We are incredibly proud of Zaylee for taking advantage of these opportunities and reaching this milestone so early in her high school career! 👏🩺
