“It’s unlikely that this is going to be the case that effectively penalizes the company in a meaningful way.” Peter Ormerod, associate professor of law, commented on a New Mexico jury’s recent findings that Facebook had over 40 million violations of state consumer protection laws. However, Ormerod said it remains to be seen whether this ruling will have a significant impact, given the company’s profits and history with regulatory actions.
