It's 31 days to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

One way to celebrate is by reading 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵'𝘀 𝟭𝟳𝟳𝟲.

The book focuses on the pivotal year when American colonists fought for independence from British rule.

It also shows how close the Revolution came to failure and how Washington's persistence and strategic thinking kept the cause of independence alive during its darkest hour.

"The Declaration of Independence set out a theory of human beings and natural law that justified breaking the political bands binding the colonies to the Crown," wrote 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗼, of BYU Law School, in a Deseret News opinion June 2.

In the third essay of a series on the Declaration, Rebeiro suggests, "The Declaration espoused that all human beings were created equal and based on natural law, they had certain unalienable natural rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

UVU-based Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU held its first out-of-state civics training May 27 for 26 K–12 teachers at UCCS.

Funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant, the instruction and discussion on the Declaration of Independence and Constitution provided resources for teachers to better teach about the American founding in the classroom.
