What should parents do if their child’s school email is hacked?

In a recent report from 13News Now (WVEC), reporter Brianna Fallon spoke with ECPI University Computer and Information Science faculty member Scott Gibson about the cybersecurity incident at Grassfield High School and what parents should watch for.

Gibson advises families not to open suspicious messages or click any links or attachments. Even with security measures in place, safe online habits remain an important line of defense.

For Tyrone Freeman, earning his bachelor's degree was a long-term goal that finally became reality. After years of experience in automotive technology and industrial maintenance, he found a path forward at ECPI University, where accelerated courses, structured scheduling, and hands-on learning helped him build on what he already knew.

Now working as an electromechanical engineer, Tyrone is continuing to strengthen his skills and set his sights on professional licensure and eventually opening his own engineering firm.

Think calling a trusted phone number is enough to protect you from scammers? Think again.

John Jordan, an IT Specialist at ECPI University, explains in a recent WSPA 7News story with Diane Lee how scammers impersonate trusted organizations like banks and manipulate phone calls to create a false sense of security.

His advice? Never trust a caller who insists you stay on the line or pressures you to move money immediately. Hang up, then place a new call directly to your bank.
