Batten University was honored to welcome four-time Grammy award-winning artist Timbaland to our campus today for CreatorVerse, an all-day event hosted by Timbaland's non-profit organization, Timbaland Way Cares, and Access College Foundation. The event featured several different sessions centered around science, technology, education, and the arts.

The Tech & Talent Expo featured tabling by student organizations Marlins Go Green and Urban League Marlins, as well as Batten's Office of Enrollment.

At NextGen, a speaker series for local highschool students, Kelly Cordova, M.B.A. '21 (Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives), and Travis Malone, Ph.D. (Dean of the Jane P. Batten Honors College and Professor of Theatre), were featured as guest speakers.

Following NextGen, local highschool students competed in a Shark Tank -style pitch competition, presenting original proposals for innovations to better their communities. Four finalists were presented with a combined total of $5,000 in scholarships from Timbaland Way Cares.

Timbaland was also presented with a resolution from the Virginia House of Delegates commending his extraordinary career. The resolution was presented by Virginia delegate Michael Feggans, alongside Virginia Beach mayor Bobby Dyer, and Virginia Beach city councilwoman Amelia Ross-Hammond, and DJ Brandon "Shaggy" Stokes.

Join the Batten University choirs and guests from Ohef Sholom Temple on October 22 at 7:30 pm. as they explore the ancient liturgical music of the Jewish High Holy Days as well as choral settings of Psalms drawn from across the choral tradition. Hearing these repertoires side by side reveals a shared vocabulary of awe, repentance, and hope: the searching melodies of the Kol Nidrei and Avinu Malkeinu alongside psalm settings by composers such as John Rutter. Explore how different traditions explore humility, forgiveness, and renewal with us.

Free and open to the public!

Can one person really make a difference? That question guided a panel discussion at Batten University on October 15, as faculty members, community leaders and civic engagement advocates explored how ordinary people can help shape history and create meaningful change in their communities.

Titled “Does Anything I Do Actually Matter? How Ordinary People Still Change History,” the discussion took place at the Athenaeum Forum in Hofheimer Library. Hosted by the Robert Nusbaum Center in partnership with the Office of Civic Engagement & Service Learning, the program encouraged attendees to think beyond traditional definitions of civic engagement and recognize the power of everyday actions.
