One Month Away! On Oct. 1st, Baylor welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author Annette Gordon-Reed for the 2026 Beall-Russell Lecture in the Humanities.

In “The Story of Our Founding, and Its Impact for Us Today,” Gordon-Reed will explore America’s founding and how the stories we tell about our history continue to shape our nation today.

A $30 million collaboration is bringing Baylor astrophysicists to the forefront of turbulence research 🌌 🔬

Baylor University astrophysicists Dr. Lorin Matthews and Dr. Truell Hyde are joining researchers nationwide in TEMPEST, a new National Science Foundation-funded center advancing the study of turbulence.

Bringing Baylor’s expertise in dusty plasma research to a collaboration spanning eight universities and five national laboratories, their work could have implications from fusion energy and hypersonic flight to the formation of planets and stars.

First up: Mia Iyer, a Baylor Political Science major from Houston! 💫

Mia came to Baylor for the feeling of community and has big plans for the years ahead, from studying abroad to pursuing her goal of becoming a criminal defense lawyer ⚖️

And when she’s not dreaming about her future in the courtroom, you might find the former water polo team captain rewatching Iron Man 2 🤽‍♀️🎬

Meet the other newest Social Media Marketing Assistant: Maryn Small! 👋🐻📱

A Houston native, Maryn is double majoring in Film & Digital Media and Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Entrepreneurship. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in media marketing, combining her passion for storytelling, creativity and strategic communication to help brands connect with their audiences.

As a huge college football fan, some of Maryn’s favorite Baylor memories have come on game days at McLane Stadium and cheering on the Bears 🏈 🐻

Now, she’s looking forward to getting to know the A&S Marketing team, learning from those around her and contributing to projects that showcase the incredible work happening across the College.

And one fun fact you might not expect: Maryn attended the same high school as Travis Scott! 🎶🤘

We’re excited to welcome Annabeth Slagle as one of our two new Social Media Marketing Assistants for the Baylor University College of Arts & Sciences!

A Houston native, Annabeth is studying Baylor Journalism, Public Relations & New Media with a concentration in Public Relations and minoring in Media Management.

She hopes to one day take her passion for storytelling into public relations in the professional sports or entertainment industry, while trusting God’s direction for wherever her career may lead.

Now, she’s excited to help tell the stories of A&S by connecting with students and highlighting the people, opportunities and experiences that make our community special.

And one fun fact you might not expect: Annabeth danced competitively for seven years in styles ranging all the way to Scottish dance, which even took her to Scotland to compete! 💃🏴

Before classes kick off, Baylor University College of Arts & Sciences students got the chance to meet professors, connect with future classmates and get a first look at the academic community they’ll call home.

You might know exactly what you want to do someday. You might have absolutely no idea yet. Either way, the first step is just being curious.
