What a great way to kick off the fall with Baylor Venture Crew 1845! We spent an awesome afternoon at The Basin climbing, bouldering, testing our strength with a few push-ups 💪, sharing some good food, and—best of all—enjoying time together.

Venturing is about adventure, leadership, service, and fellowship, and today was a great reminder that sometimes the best memories are made simply by showing up, trying something challenging, cheering each other on, and having fun together.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic fall filled with activities, service, new adventures, lots of laughter, and plenty of opportunities to grow together.
Here’s to a great year ahead for Crew 1845! 💚⚜️

Scouts and Scouters,

By now, I am sure you have seen the news of the devastating and fast moving wildfire out in Palo Pinto County. The 10 acre fire started yesterday many miles south of the Worth Ranch. The fire grew 100 acres per minute to 50,000 acres overnight. Unfortunately, Worth Ranch Scout Camp was in the path of the fire. Initial reports from multiple news sources and the LHC Ross fire web site - https://www.longhorncouncil.org/rossfireupdate report that many structures on camp were severely damaged or destroyed.

We are very saddened to hear these reports as many scouts and scouters have spent many years of cub pack camping, weekend Troop camping, canoe races, summer camp weeks for 50+ years, volunteered at work days, grown youth to lead as counselors at summer camp and sent many scouts to leadership camps such as NYLT and Aquatic School (as recently as a month ago). There is a spirit at Worth Ranch that resonates with many of us and lives on in our hearts. Despite the heartbreak and devastation, in our sorrow, we realize that the spirit of the land will live on through the people and the scouts that gather there.

According to the Longhorn Council site they are delivering donations of the following...

Longhorn Council is currently collecting the following items:

Bottled Water
Gatorade and Sports Drinks
Liquid IV or other hydration packets
Pickles and pickle juice
Meat sticks and high-protein snacks
Granola bars
Pet food
Other sites are asking for items to support fire fighter such as water wipes/baby wipes, eye drops, lip balm, cooling towels, individually packaged snacks, and "small, quick snacks that can be eaten on the go"

You can also donate money to directly to the Worth Ranch recovery fund at "Donate to the Worth Ranch Recovery Fund"

"As Scouts, service is at the heart of what we do. This is an opportunity for our community to support those working tirelessly on the front lines and families facing difficult circumstances."

Please pray that parts of the camp were saved and celebrate that no one was injured. Please join me in prayer for the camp ranger whose home was destroyed and for the frontline firefighters trying to save neighboring communities.

Registration is now open for the Leave No Trace Skills Course, taking place September 19–20, 2026, at Camp Tahuaya.

This 16-hour overnight course is open to both youth and adults. Only 22 youth spots remain, so early registration is strongly encouraged.

Please note:
• Every attendee must register and pay individually.
• Adults attending the course must register as adult participants, not adult staff.
• The registration fee is $20 per person.

Course Information
The Recreational Track is designed for youth ages 14–17, or Scouts who have earned Second Class rank or higher. Participants will learn the principles and ethics of Leave No Trace, practical outdoor skills and techniques, and an overview of the national Leave No Trace program.

This course is especially recommended for:
• Outdoor Ethics Guides
• Unit and OA youth and adult leaders
• Wood Badge, NYLT, IOLS, and BALOO training staff
• Den Chiefs
• Camp staff
• Other youth and adult Scout leaders

Completion of this course is also a requirement for the National Medal for Outdoor Achievement.

Graduates will receive Leave No Trace Level Training materials and official training recognition under Training Code D84.

Attendance Requirements
Participants must attend both the virtual session and the field session.

Each participant must also:
• Have a current BSA membership
• Have current Youth Protection Training and Hazardous Weather Training
• Bring a completed BSA Medical Form, Parts A and B
• Complete a 10-minute presentation or activity during the field session; assignments will be given during the virtual session
• Bring a sack lunch and snack

Meals and Camping
• Saturday breakfast: Eat before arriving
• Saturday lunch: Bring a sack lunch
• Saturday dinner: Provided
• Sunday breakfast: Provided; participants will plan, cook, and clean up using Leave No Trace principles

Dietary restrictions will be discussed and accommodated as needed.

Catholic Scouting America is excited to announce the new Fortin Education For Service Scholarship!

The Fortin Education for Service $3,500 Scholarship was established in 2026 by Herve Derek Fortin. Its name reflects a guiding principle that has shaped Mr. Fortin's life and career. Upon graduating from college, he received a pocket watch from his parents engraved with the words "Education for Service." The gift served as a lifelong reminder that education carries with it a responsibility to serve others and strengthen one's community.

Mr. Fortin exemplified this principle throughout his 42-year career as a Professional Scouter with the Boy Scouts of America, serving local councils across the United States and around the world.
