The McLennan Department of Music is deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague, Kari Peden. In addition to her role as Lead Advising Specialist at MCC, Kari served as a voice instructor and collaborative performer. Kari generously supported the Visual and Performing Arts Division through her service, mentorship, and friendship. Her joyful presence, caring spirit, and lasting contributions to the Department of Music will not be forgotten.

We are thrilled to introduce our new Tuba and Euphonium professor, Casey Stringer!

Casey Stringer is a performer and educator currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Tuba Performance at Texas Christian University. He previously earned his Master’s of Music in Tuba Performance from the University of Hartford and a Bachelor of Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, studying under Dr. Clay Garrett, Scott Mendoker, and Dr. J.D. Salas.

Stringer has taught at both the collegiate and public-school levels. He also maintains an active private studio in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area, working with students from beginners through advanced high school players. His teaching centers on building strong fundamentals, musical expression, and the confidence students need for auditions, performances, and lifelong musicianship. Stringer values creating supportive yet challenging environments where young musicians can grow. He looks forward to bringing this experience to the students and music program at McLennan Community College.

Please join us in welcoming Professor Stringer to the McLennan Community College Department of Music!

We are thrilled to introduce our new Mariachi director and interim flute instructor, Dr. Eduardo Martinez!

A native of the Dominican Republic, flutist Eduardo A. Martinez joins McLennan Community College as Flute and Mariachi Instructor. In demand as soloist, chamber artist, and orchestral flutist, recent engagements include Principal Flute on world tour orchestras with Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Il Divo, and Yandel's Sinfónico, piccolo with the Amarillo Symphony, and solo performances at the French-Czech Academy in Telč and for the National Flute Association. Recent recitals include St. Procopius Basilica in Třebíč and guest artist at East Texas A&M University and University of Texas at Tyler. He can be heard on Thomas Sleeper: Music for Flute. An advocate for Latin American and Caribbean repertoire, he programs the music of the Americas alongside standard literature. His doctoral research on Tania León's Del Caribe, Soy! produced a transcription performed by the work's dedicatee, Néstor Torres, in Miami in 2026. A clinician for an El Sistema-based foundation in the Dominican Republic, he also presents masterclasses at home and abroad. Dr. Martinez serves on the Collin College music faculty and maintains a private studio of more than sixty students in the Rockwall and Forney school districts. A member of Pi Kappa Lambda, he holds the DMA and MM from the University of North Texas, where he studied with Regents Professor Mary Karen Clardy and served as Teaching Fellow, Director of the Flute Choir, and Chamber Music Coach, and the BM from the University of Miami as a student of Trudy Kane, emeritus principal flute of the Metropolitan Opera.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Eduardo Martinez to the McLennan Community College Department of Music!
