We're just 4 days away from the inaugural MCC TMEA/ATSSB Region Etude Audition Clinic on October 24! As we count down to this exciting event, we're sharing practice tips and insights from our MCC music studio faculty to help students prepare for their upcoming Region auditions.

PERCUSSION STUDENTS: In addition to helping classical percussion students transfer to esteemed institutions, Jonathan Kutz has performed alongside artists including Ted Nugent, Tommy Emmanuel, Ruthie Foster, and Sloppy Joe. Join him on October 24 for a hands-on percussion clinic that is designed to help students identify their blind spots, fix chronic mistakes, and transform a low-scoring ex*****on into a commanding, high-scoring performance.

TUBA & EUPHONIUM STUDENTS: Casey Stringer is a performer and educator currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance at Texas Christian University. At TCU, he works with non-major applied students, teaches low brass techniques, and leads the Tuba Euphonium Ensemble. He also maintains a private studio, working with students from beginners through advanced high school players. Let him help you build the fundamentals and confidence to play your best at this year's region auditions by attending our free All-Region Clinics on October 24!

TROMBONE STUDENTS: Matthew Fowler is a classical Bass Trombonist and Educator. He currently serves as the Bass Trombonist of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. As a high schooler, Matt made the Alabama All-State band, orchestra, and jazz bands in multiple years. Since moving to Texas, Matt has helped many young trombonists be competitive at both region and state levels. Get more great advice from Matthew at our MCC Region Etude Clinic on October 24!

OBOE & BASSOON STUDENTS: Tristen Collinsworth is a bassoonist, multi-woodwind specialist, teacher, and arranger who lends his talents to ensembles including the Waco Community Band, McLennan Community Orchestra, and Waco Civic Theater. A multi-faceted artist who once served as the chief orchestrator of an ensemble that blended modern metal music with symphonic tradition, Tristen now serves as Instructor of Double Reeds at MCC. Learn from his experience at our All-Region Etude Clinics on October 24, and then come back to hear him perform as a featured soloist with the MCC Wind Ensemble on November 9!

HORN STUDENTS: Dr. Kim Hagelstein performs regularly with the Waco and Temple Symphonies. As a high school student, she was twice named the first chair horn player of the Missouri All-State Band, and she has coached students to the top chair in their All-State ensemble for the past three years in a row. Join her on October 24 for advice on how to perform your best at this year's auditions!

On Thursday, October 15, the MCC Choirs will present a concert titled “Songs We Carry.” The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilbur A. Ball Performing Arts Center on the MCC Campus and is free and open to the public. The MCC Choirs, under the direction of Jenna McLean, will be accompanied by Dr. Jared Eben (piano), Bethany Jordan (flute), and Baylor Mariachi Osos Dorados. Tickets are not required.
