A Baylor Art student show you do not want to miss - located in Baylor Libraries Goodpasture concourse (the atrium between the library information desk and the Starbucks cafe area).

Students Sam Saneman’s and Katherine Smith’s show entitled “Contrary Cups” explores the concept of expressive cups and mugs. The work was done in Ceramic Professor Andrew McIntrye’s Advanced Ceramics class.

Take a moment to stop by and engage with these unique and original objects, you won’t be sorry.

Ford Willingham’s work spans across several different collections including “Notions & impressions” where she reflects upon the mother-child relationship and “Of Ma’at: Women of Egypt” which uses photo-based fiber works that highlights the vitality and complexity of Egyptian womanhood across temporal contexts: from ancient to current day.

It’s October 1st and that means you have 17 days left to see Painting Professor Winter Rusiloski’s Solo Exhibition at the Museum of East Texas in Lufkin.

“Traversing Lines: A Narrative on the American Landscape” includes a variety of works from the last ten years with some works being exhibited for the very first time. The sizes of the paintings range from 9” x 12” oil on canvas to Troy Epic Narrative, an 8’ tall by 63’ long acrylic on canvas painting created in 2025 outdoors during an artist residency at Troy University in Alabama. Other significant works include Crown 5’ x 7’ oil and collage on canvas with photography from her studies of the southwest border region in Big Bend of Texas, a focal point in her work over the last 8 years.

The Creative Arts Experience (CAE) is kicking the year off!

Creative Arts Experiences were developed to foster artistic literacy and human empathy by exposing students to a wide variety of creative arts events on the Baylor campus.

During the semester, students in ART 1300 Introduction to Art will have the opportunity to engage with artists visiting the classroom to demonstrate various techniques and provide students the ability to engage and learn about mediums, materials, and process.

The Martin Museum of Art also offers CAE experiences throughout the semester for students to visit and learn more about art, the creativity process, and first-hand engagement in person.

Exciting news – the work of several Baylor Painting “generations or legacies” are in a selected exhibition together entitled Chaos X at the Ro2 Art Gallery in Dallas.

The group includes Painting Professor Winter Rusiloski, her former students Ellie Cerwin, Kate Swayze, as well as current student Aleah Burns.

Congrats to all on this really unique and amazing experience!

Following up on the earlier post of this year’s Convocation Ceremony are some photos of the event:

Dr. Heidi Hornik, Department Chair and Professor of Art History, delivered the keynote address at this year’s Convocation Ceremony, which welcomes everyone to the new academic year. Department faculty, slide three, were on hand to participate in this welcoming event.

Dr. Hornik’s presentation, “You Are God’s Masterpiece”, expounded on the concept of masterpiece and started with Ephesians 2:10 and its application both spiritually and in practice. During Dr. Hornik’s address Studio Art major Maritza Degollado-Ramirez created an original ‘masterpiece’ which is seen in the last two slides, the latter with President Livingstone and Dr. Hornik.

It’s the first day of the semester and studio art classes are kicking off!

It’s the first day of the semester and classes are busily underway!

In Dr. Jerolyn Morrison’s Art History Survey class, students visited the Martin Museum of Art and created their personal art observation journals for the semester. Using book-arts techniques, they compiled and stitched the books in preparation for use.

The journals will be used throughout the semester for students to write and journal their experiences with art on Baylor’s campus and then compare those pieces to the historical works they will study in class.

It’s both a hands-on making experience coupled with an art analysis project rolled into one! Brill.

Art History Professor Dr. Jerolyn Morrison has had an amazing and busy summer. For the past summers she has been part of the the San Giuliano Archaeological Research Project (SGARP) team in Italy.

In June, SGARP presented an exhibition of the opening of the late 7th
century BCE Etruscan Tomb of the Painted Bird. Located in the Necropolis of San Giuliano within Marturanum Regional Park, the intact tomb and its contents remained untouched for millennia.

In less than a year, metal objects, 73 vases, and textile fragments were fully restored and put on display at the Museo Necropoli Rupestri in Barbarano Romano, Viterbo, Italy. Working hand-in-hand with the community, the SGARP Team designed and brought the exhibition to life!

In other important news, Dr. Morrison, after being a temporary lecturer in the department for the past four years, will join the department this fall as a tenure-track Professor of Art History!

Professor James Ehlers is having a busy summer! Two of his works are in upcoming juried exhibitions in Connecticut and Florida and he just finished teaching a week-long metal engraving workshop at the University of Iowa.

His piece ”All is Want and Want is More” (Slide 1) is in the juried show “Five Points Arts 2026 Juried Printmaking Exhibition” opening tomorrow at the Five Points Arts Gallery in Torrington, Connecticut. Juried by Kathleen Schroeder | July 17 – August 30 | 12”x18” | Metal Engraving
