🎓 Meet Dallas Johnson, our 2026 MSW Spirit of Social Award recipient!

Dallas’s journey into social work began with a passion for ministry and grew into a calling to serve churches, Christian nonprofits, and communities through collaboration and connection. As a student at Baylor, he explored the intersection of faith and professional social work while developing practical skills in community practice and organizational leadership.

💬 “I would describe myself as curious because I strive to offer a posture of curiosity toward others, regardless of who they are or what their background is.”

Today, Dallas serves as the Collaborations Coordinator at Movement West Michigan, where he continues to bring people and communities together to create meaningful change.

We’re proud to celebrate Dallas and the curiosity, humility and commitment to community that he brings to the field of social work. 💚💛

“We see the needs in the community, so that motivates us to do more in addition to research”

For Dr. Ling Xu and Dr. Jinyu Liu, the Dallas Chinese Community Center Health Fair is an opportunity to put the Garland School’s mission into practice—serving others, building relationships, and understanding individuals within the context of their families, cultures, and communities.

Through their work with the DCCC, Drs. Xu and Liu have found meaningful connections between their research and the experiences of the people they meet.

Their ongoing partnership is a reminder that social work can take many forms, bringing together knowledge, compassion, and a commitment to making a difference. 💚💛

“Jesus was the first social worker because he cared not only about the soul but also physical and emotional needs.”

For Biak Nu Sung, M.S.W. ’12, social work is more than a profession. It is a calling to serve, protect, and invest in the next generation.

A graduate of the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work and a Global Missions Leadership Scholar, Biak has carried what she learned at Baylor back to her home country of Myanmar, where she has devoted her career to child protection and development.

“I feel responsible for the people in Myanmar,” Biak said. “How can I bless them with what I have been blessed with?”

We are proud to celebrate Biak as a recipient of Baylor University’s Pro Mundo Medal of Service and to honor the meaningful work she continues to do for children, families, and communities around the world.
