In 1928, Dr. William Moulton Marston gave his former Tufts student Olive Byrne a pair of gold cuffs that she wore like bracelets. The cuffs represented the "marriage" of husband and wife, at least symbolically. Marston was already married to his college sweetheart, Sadie Holloway. Marston, Holloway and Byrne would end up living under the same roof and raising four children together until Marston's death in 1947. And those same gold cuffs would end up on the wrists of a third leading lady in his life — the most famous female comic book character ever. Yes, Wonder Woman! The feminist superheroine whose magic golden lasso compelled anyone she commanded to tell the truth was created by the same man who falsely claimed to have invented the lie detector test.

A truly unbelievable tale of good intentions, twisted morals, and unintended consequences, "The Lie Detector" from American Experience | PBS premieres at 9 p.m. ET on GBH-2: to.pbs.org/3vyFBXZ

Quoted by NBC on the latest season of Bridgerton, Prof. Singh said, "the inclusion of brown-skinned actresses such as Ashley and Chandran was significant in itself, and some of the cultural moments hit home. But with an under-researched use of language and a half-in, half-out approach to addressing race, there were areas where the new season fell short."

Thanks to the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson, today marks a new day for our nation and U.S. Supreme Court. Earlier this evening, at the M. Jacqui Alexander Lecture (hosted by AAAS), Anita Hill expressed her own excitement for this moment and urges everyone to narrate this national milestone before it's lost on us.

In 2018, Prof. Hill spoke out about the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, in which multiple women came forward with claims for sexual assault, so this news feels different and deserved. Yet, while it may seem like we've won the race, the clock has just been set and now, there is no better occasion to study what has just happened and what will happen next.
