The university and surrounding community are invited to attend an important Public Community Forum on Kratom and 7-OH, two substances that are increasingly raising serious concerns among public health officials.
If you are unfamiliar with these substances, now is the time to learn about them. Kratom and 7-OH are currently being sold over the counter in our community with no age restrictions. Even more concerning, 7-OH can be up to 13 times more potent than morphine, and health experts warn it may become the next wave of the opioid crisis if communities do not take action.
We have an opportunity to address this issue before it reaches crisis levels, but that can only happen if community members are informed and involved. Your voice matters in shaping how our community responds to the sale and availability of these substances.
Please plan to attend the forum on Thursday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the Lauran Nahm Auditorium on campus. This forum will provide information, allow for community discussion, and explore possible steps we can take together to protect public health and safety.
These substances have already been linked to addiction, overdoses, and deaths. I have also included a recent KCTV 5 News story about a death in Kansas City connected to these products.
Now is the time to become informed, ask questions, and help our community take proactive steps before this becomes a larger crisis.
