The semester is quickly coming to an end, and our Kent State Washington Program in National Issues (WPNI) students will soon be heading back to Ohio. Before they go, we invite our Kent State alumni community to join us to say goodbye, share advice, and wish them success as they take their next steps.

The Alumni Board is happy to announce that we are hosting an Ugly Sweater Happy Hour!

Everyone is invited to join us for an evening of drinks, soda, hot dogs, and deep dish pizza at DC's favorite Midwest bar, Ivy & Coney. Everyone will be responsible for their own food and drinks, but the good company is on us. Don’t forget to wear your favorite ugly holiday sweater!

We had a great time exploring the Washington National Cathedral with alumni who signed up for a docent-led tour and stroll through the crypt this past Saturday! The exhibits from KSU’s Wick Poetry Center are a must-see.

Board members Katherine Schaeffer, Daniel Moore, and Samantha Mew thank everyone for coming out! We’re excited to have more events soon.

We had a great time cleaning up the Anacostia River shoreline last weekend for ! The group--a collection of KSU and other volunteers--found plastic bottles, snack wrapper, beer cans, brooms, lighters and lots and lots of styrofoam.

Watch for next year's opportunity to be advertised in early 2025. We're open to suggestions on where to go and how to give back. Feel free to drop a line anytime. And watch for more events this summer and fall!

Happy Monday, DC alums!

Next Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m., the chapter will be holding an opening reception and happy hour for students participating in the Washington Program in National Issues.

The event details:
Astro Beer Hall
1306 G Street NW
Washington DC
(right across the street from the Metro Center station)
Starts at 5:30 p.m.

We have a space booked for food and drinks and encourage all alums in the DC area to drop by! This will be a chance to meet and connect with each other and allow the students to practice their networking and socialization skills that will be important to sharpen on the DC social scene.

Hey DC alumni, happy new year! The start of 2024 means a fresh class of WPNI is set to begin, with a new group of students arriving in the Washington area by the end of the week.

The WPNI program will be hosting a reception for the students this Saturday, January 13th at 6 p.m. in Crystal City. We encourage alumni in the area to come meet them and give them some advice for living/working in DC. If you are a WPNI alum, come share your thoughts on a successful WPNI experience! The alumni chapter board will be there as well, and we'd love to meet you.

The reception will be on the 1st floor of the students' residence complex. We’ll have a sign by foyer when you enter to let you know where to go. There is some visitor parking out front.
