The United Nations meets every year to document the progress made on the Convention of Rights with Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). In its twelfth year, the Conference of State Parties (COSP) sees dignitaries from around the world present their progress on promises. IDPP’ focus rests on the Article 24 of the CRPD, Education. With opening remarks from Ecuador’ Permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Luis Gallegos, IDPP is holding a panel moderated by IDPP’s Executive Director Dr. Derrick Cogburn.

IDPP is honored to participate in today's University of Maryland Disability Summit.

On our second year at UMD, IDPP Executive Director Dr. Derrick Cogburn spoke about IDPP's research on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR), including research findings on web-conferencing tools and mobile teleprescence robots, "Beyond Being There - For All of Us".

We were delighted to meet the keynote speaker Dr. Jonathan Lazar (Maryland's iSchool) who is also an editor on IDPP's forthcoming book on technology and disability.

Last week, IDPP staff and students in the M.S. Analytics Kogod School of Business (American University) students took part in an exciting site visit to PAHO-WHO's headquarters.

The visit featured presentations by leading data analytics and governance experts from PAHO, Special Olympics, and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Students also experienced what data analysis during a disaster is like through a hands-on simulation.

Through volunteer experiences at the The Arc of Essex County and Chemung County Habitat For Humanity, Marissa developed a life-changing passion for supporting marginalized communities. She is passionate about using her communication skills for social good.

The talk is being hosted by the The University of Melbourne on February 13.

Dr. Filippo Trevisan, Deputy Director of the Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP), will be participating in a talk on a new paper analyzing the use of storytelling in grassroots advocacy in Australia and the U.S.
