So, you’ve had an idea that you’ve tested and could be scaled… How can you convince top management to adopt and support it? What if there are opposing views within the top management team? How to navigate the different agendas and perspectives from other leaders before you can even pitch to the final decision maker?

In this hour together we will identify an idea that you’ve already tested and now need to sell to a senior leader (it could even be your own promotion within the organization); then we’ll follow a series of short exercises to map the influence landscape at your organization and create an alliance-building plan. You’ll end up with a replicable method that you can add to your innovation toolkit at work and in life.

Teaching MLK’s “I Have a Dream” Speech in 2022 - The first Mission in Motion post of 2022 invites the SCS community to participate in the University’s annual “Teach the Speech” initiative, which this year focuses on Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. “As the United States continues to experience social, cultural, and political polarization around persisting racial injustices in all facets of society, MLK’s iconic 1963 speech presents a valuable opportunity to renew the discussion in 2022 and recommit to tangible actions at Georgetown.”

What’s Your Holiday Tradition?

It’s almost hard to believe, but the holidays are upon us! The time between Thanksgiving and the end of year always feels like a mad dash, but we want to take a moment to celebrate the diverse foods, customs, and traditions that make this time meaningful and special to you and your loved ones. To that end, the SCS Dean's Office team is curious to know:

What’s a must-have dish at your family table?

What’s a decoration you always put up around the home?

Do you dress up your pet for the holidays? (Photos are mandatory for this question.)

What’s an organization you try to support and/or volunteer at during the holidays?

We invite you to share your responses to the above and more in this brief Google form. Photos are a bonus! We may contact you to feature them on SCS’s social media accounts to celebrate our community during the holidays. Thank you in advance for participating!

Tomorrow we'll be hosting SCS Bookshelf: Design Thinking with Karen Hold.

What are leaders in your industry currently reading? What are the “must-haves” on their bookshelf? Join us virtually tomorrow on October 19 at 5:00-6:00 p.m. ET for a unique book talk (cliff notes provided) featuring author and Georgetown McDonough alumna Karen Hold, founder of an innovation consulting firm - Experience Labs. Karen will join Wendy Zajack, Faculty Director of the Design Management Communications program, where they will discuss some of the book's central themes and provide you with some tangible advice that will transform your design thinking skills. Come ready with loads of questions and join the discussion and the fun.

The Book:
Experiencing Design – The Innovator's Journey -- draws on decades of researching and teaching design thinking. Karen with co-authors, Jeanne Liedtka and Jessica Eldridge, have created a ‘how to’ guide for each stage of the design thinking journey. Ultimately, innovators need to be someone new to create something new. This book shows you how to make this actually happen step by step. Upon your RSVP you will be sent an excerpt via email.
