“When you tackle topics identifying vulnerabilities from stadium climate controls and transportation grids to broadcast infrastructure, and brainstorm methodologies for modeling cascading failures, mapping those vulnerabilities at the convergence of digital and kinetic systems, and translating complex threat data into actionable intelligence for executive decision-makers, you need to establish a shared risk language between cybersecurity, physical security and political stakeholders to ensure defense strategies are fully integrated, not siloed,” -Liesl Riddle, PhD, Dean of GW’s College of Professional Studies

Join us in congratulating our 2026 Dr. Richard F. Southby Police Science Prize recipient, Andy L. Heppeard.

Dr. Richard F. Southby was a faculty member at the George Washington University from 1979 to 2006, having served as department chair, associate dean, interim dean of the former School of Public Health and Health Services, distinguished professor of global health, and executive dean in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Health Affairs. He was granted emeritus status by the Board of Trustees in 2006. Dr. Southby was the founding director of the Police Science Program in the College of Professional Studies.

Andy receives this honor for his exceptional performance in the Bachelor of Professional Studies in Homeland Security/Police and Security Studies program.
