🌍🏆 American University was recognized by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs as having one of the highest number of students and alumni selected for the U.S. Student and Scholars Programs. The great news continues for American University! This week, we were named a top producer of Fulbright US students and Fulbright US scholars for 2024–25! This makes AU just one of 19 institutions—and only 13 doctoral universities—that earned both distinctions.

“American University has a storied tradition of producing top Fulbright talent, who are deeply committed to gaining a global understanding of learning, teaching, and research,” said Monica Jackson, deputy provost and dean of faculty. “This latest recognition demonstrates the long-lasting commitment that AU faculty and students make to impact on communities across our campus, DC, and worldwide.”

At AU, you don't need an internship or competitive job to get first-hand experience investing in venture capital. 💸📊 American University's Veloric Center for Entrepreneurship has now developed its own fund, The Eagle Venture Seed Fund, that students completely manage, focused on pre-seed and seed startups.

Overseen by the Director of the Veloric Center for Entrepreneurship and managed by a diverse team of undergraduate, graduate, and MBA students from American University, the donor-supported fund—with an initial $150,000 raised—invests in early-stage companies that are disrupting industries through innovative technology such as artificial intelligence, advancing sustainable solutions to address global challenges, or pursuing societal impacts.

🌟 Eagle Intern Spotlight 🌟

Meet Oni Chaytor, SOC/BA '25, a Spring 2025 Communications Intern with New Heights Communication, a public affairs and public relations firm that provides clients with communications strategies to make change.

Q: What does your day-to-day look like as the Communications Intern?
A: "My day-to-day involves informing New Heights' clients of news coverage related to their work, gauging their interest in having their news pitched to media, taking notes during client meetings, and assisting in creating press releases, statements, and op-eds."

Q: What do you love most about your internship?
A: "New Heights feels like a family. They are welcoming, supportive, and encourage me to do my very best."

Q: What career advice would you give to your fellow Eagles?
A: "Rejection is redirection. Be patient because you will eventually get a career or internship opportunity!"

Q: Is there someone you would like to thank in the AU Community?
A: "I would like to thank my community of journalism and PR students. They have pushed me to succeed and have supported me throughout all my endeavors. I would not be where I am today without their unwavering support."

Yesterday was all about action at the Media Production Center! Our talented students took the reins for an exciting episode of Media in the Mix, featuring Dean Marnel Niles Goins. From setting up cameras and lighting to mic’ing talent and managing the audio, our team did it all!

Hosted by double eagle and video proudction manager Grace Ibrahim, the episode was a riot of laughs and learning, with every student playing a vital role in transforming podcast production. Not only did they gain hands-on experience in crafting compelling video content, but they also got a real taste of the dynamic world of podcasting.
