Three GW School of Business Master of Science in Business Analytics graduates published a paper on detecting bias in AI language models.
Hanna Courtot (MBA ‘25), Shegufta Tasneem (MBA ‘25) and Katherine Fullowan (MS ‘26) built the framework as their practicum capstone project while working with EY, testing whether GPT models produce different summaries of news stories about financial fraud when only a person’s race or gender changes.
The goal is to give financial institutions a way to catch bias and reduce the impact on financial decisions like lending.
Patrick Hall, teaching assistant professor of decision sciences and chief AI officer at the School of Business, served as their faculty mentor throughout the project.
