Proverbs 29:16-20
We often think about just the "No vision, people perish" part but herein is some additional context around the passage. “16. When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul. Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.”
I have envisioned for quite some time not only to foster a connection with the Department of Veteran Affairs, but also to build a strong and mutually beneficial partnership. As a veteran I have talked to many veterans in our jurisdiction and see the challenges they face. I saw an opportunity to leverage our resources and the expertise of Col/PM CJ Johnson to provide them with the support and services our brothers and sisters deserve. By forging a partnership with the VA, we educate our membership on how to access critical resources, improve communication between them and the VA, and ultimately enhance the quality of care for our nation's heroes and their families. Our next step is to take the experience and education we have and expand our outreach to the greater DC community. As we perform our community outreach and come across a veteran we have additional tools in our toolbox, from firsthand knowledge not here say. A huge thanks to Colonel/PM CJ Johnson and his team for getting us through Phase I of the vision. This marks the very first time that we have implemented a veteran program at this level to put money in the pockets of those that deserve it most. As you know, keeping the momentum is crucial in our efforts to do what’s right. There is no masonic leadership with masonic membership, and we must encourage and facilitate a better educated membership.
Thank you for participating in the event on November 8 at the Grand Lodge in Washington, DC. In transparency, please find attached a short slide deck with data collected at the event. Please note those survey scores are quite high and that is a testament to all of you – thank you for providing an excellent experience for participating Veterans and their families. I have spoken with a few of the DC Councilpersons regarding our Veteran Outreach Program and they are as excited as I am and are looking forward to the future.
As you look at the numbers you should feel excitement and joy for what we can do for each other. A few other educational points.
Under the Veteran Administration there are a few other programs we will have additional speakers talk to us about:
Veteran’s Health Care Admin (VHA) – this is the hospitals and health care facilities. Women’s Health Clinic is separate providing a Women’s Care Plan for our sisters.
Veteran’s Benefits Admin (VBA) – Home loan guarantee, education benefits, disability benefits, and Chapter 31 vocational rehab. Contact them at 800-827-1000 or www.va.gov
Veteran Cemetery Admin (VCA) – I know we do not want to talk about it, but it is necessary for your survivor to have a copy of all your paperwork including DD 214. These are your entitlements for burial and military honor.
Dental Care Plan for those who have a 100% rating
This is a part of my Membership Experience Visionary 2024 Plan.
