The Asian American Studies field has grown tremendously since its inception in the 1968 Third World Liberation movement. Georgetown has not grown with it.

Modeled after similar projects at Penn, Duke, Amherst, Yale, Dartmouth, Williams, and more, “Georgetown Doesn’t Teach Me” is a photo campaign advocating for more courses and tenure-line faculty specializing in Asian American Studies at Georgetown. Currently, we only have one tenure-line professor specializing in Asian America and have had only one, or sometimes no, classes offered on the Asian American experience.

Nine years ago, President DeGioia claimed the university would “explore creating new programs” in African American, Asian American and Hispanic/Latinx Studies. Now, we are calling for Georgetown to live up to its promises.

If Georgetown’s goal is to educate its students to be responsible and active participants in civic life, its current lack of ethnic studies courses is wholly incompatible with this. Our photo campaign serves to remind Georgetown that it is time to tell Asian American stories.

Thank you to all those who came to our Little Hong Kong event tonight!

Look forward to all these events in the coming future for API Heritage Month 2018, as we celebrate API Heritage and take the time to reflect on the sociopolitical issues that affect AAPI communities. Thank you to APILF for their amazing effort in putting this together!!

[EDIT]: VSA's Tea Talk is in Arrupe MPR, NOT HFSC Herman Room.

WELCOME TO API HERITAGE MONTH 2018! We are delighted to use the month of November to celebrate API peoples and cultures and to commemorate our heritages. We hope that this month we can all take time to reflect on the sociopolitical issues affecting AAPI communities as we celebrate our multi-faceted and intersectional identities.

Please check out the many events being hosted by API orgs across campus this month! See individual Facebook events for more details (note: event details subject to change). Thank you to HKSA Georgetown, Japan Network Georgetown University, Georgetown Chinese Student Alliance, Georgetown University Vietnamese Student Association, Georgetown AASA, Georgetown University Hindu Students Association - Undergraduates, Georgetown University South Asian Society, George Town-ksa, Georgetown University Muslim Students Association, LGBTQ Center, Georgetown University, CMEA - Georgetown University, Art Beyond the Margins, the President's office, and many more individuals for making heritage month possible!
