When it comes to college experiences Malahn wishes that she knew that friends you make coming in will be different than the friends you graduate with.
Make the best of your college experience by sitting back and being yourself, with time the right things, friendships will fall into place.
[post description: Black and white photo of former student Malahn: white box with blue font that reads "I wish I knew that your friends from freshman year won’t be the friends you walked out with after graduation. Quality over quantity. Your real friends will stick with you through everything. The good and the bad. Your real friends will become your ride or die for life and will stick with you through everything, the good or bad. So don’t force friendship , sit back and just enjoy college. The real ones will come to you when the right time comes." GU ALUMA Yellow Background on the right]

What Stefania wishes as a freshman is that she knew that all you have to do is be yourself. After that the rest will fall into place.
Make sure you make the best out of your college experience, by being yourself. Meeting new friends, exploring Washington D.C.

[Post Description:]What I wish I knew during my freshman year was that all you really gotta do is be yourself and the rest will follow. College is a place full of people coming from various backgrounds and lifestyles. We all have something to bring so take the time to explore and find your place. You will never know what you will find if you don’t put yourself out there. GU Alumna” Next to the white box is a yellow background.

What our Academic Advisor Erin Land Brown wishes she knew when she was a freshmen. She wished that she knew it’s okay to ask for help.
Make sure you make the best out of your time here at Gallaudet University. Any time you have conflict or you feel stuck. Reach out! Stop by our student success and academic academic advisor office. For tips and Resources! Even new connections.

[post description]: Black and white photo of our academic advisor Erin. Smiling wearing a Gallaudet Hoodie sweater. “What I wish I knew during my freshman year was that it’s okay to ask for help. I felt that I could do everything by myself and that I could solve all the problems. Technically, we are supposed to navigate through life by learning from our mistakes/ experiences and finding solutions to conflicts, but it’s okay to ask for help. Sometimes someone else has ideas we could find beneficial. Not only that, but they could share their experiences with us because they were once college kids!GU Alumna” Next to the white box is a yellow background.

When it comes to college experience, Graduate student Ryan. Looks back during his undergrad as freshmen. He wishes that he applied to more on campus jobs.
Make sure you make the best of your college experience by checking out our paraprofessional job fair. It’s coming up soon February 18th!

[Post Description]: Black and white photo of a male student in a black hoodie with a long beard and Black frame glasses. “Looking back as a Freshman, I wished I applied for a job at campus.
Having a job on campus has its perks such as building skills, discovering tools, honing your work ethics, networking and working alongside with many great employers. **BONUS: who could eventually give you a reference later when you search for jobs after graduation.
The pay was not to my expectations, I allowed my pride to miss out those constructive opportunities. Moreover, those jobs could potentially lead you to employment at the university after graduation. **BONUS: being permanently employed by the university, you could get a tuition waiver for your masters!
One more thing I wish I knew as a freshman, take advantage of those FREE training opportunities, professional development, workshops and/or presentations. Once after college, those opportunities are still there however you would have to pay your way! **BONUS: free is free!
Learn as much as you possibly can. Partying is still an important aspect of college experience but do not forget you are also there to learn. At the present time you might not think it would be that beneficial – just wait! You would be surprised at how those accumulated experiences and knowledge might come in handy one day.” GU ALUMNUS. When it comes to college our Peer Leader Payton shares that networking is important. Payton wishes that she knew an earlier start at networking would have been beneficial.

[Post-Description:] Black and white photo of our student peer leeder. White box with blue font that reads: "I wish I knew how it was important to build your network at Gallaudet University.

There were events, meetings and other activities I could’ve gone to in my freshman year. I pushed them aside and made excuses to not go to any.

When I finally started going to events, meetings, and activities. I’ve met so many people and made connections with them. Because of those connections, I saw more opportunities coming before me.

Gallaudet is a great place to start building your network and create opportunities for yourself. Of course, building your network will take time. Find your network by stepping out of your comfortable zone. The network you create you will have for the rest of your life.

Our Wednesday is back!

When it comes to college experiences, coming back as a returning student. Elijah wishes that he made the most of his academic experiences the first time around.

Make sure you make the best of your college by taking the time to explore your opportunities as a college freshman.

[post description]: black and white photo of a male student in a turtleneck and a darker color blazer. White box with blue font that reads “As a returning student, I wish I would have made the most of my time academically the first time around. I understand the feeling of first coming to college as a freshman and your early years, you want to have fun and make friends and party but don't ever lose sight of the main reason you come to Gallaudet in the first place. Not saying that you can't have fun but investing just as much if not more time into studying, doing homework and attending your classes is just equally as important when it comes to the college experience. With this being said, time management is important. Practices such as setting aside time for homework, reaching out to your teachers with concerns or communicating needs for extensions with assignments and knowing that sometimes you have to sacrifice in order to focus on school will take you a long way. Also knowing the resources that are available to you when you feel overwhelmed is important too. It is ok to feel overwhelmed and that is part of college but knowing how to handle these situations can make all the difference. Gallaudet is such an amazing experience and it is what you make out of your time here which will determine if you leave with a sense of fulfillment.
