Do you remember one of the important counseling points for Concerta?

-

-

-

If you said C, you are correct! Empty Concerta tablets may be noticed in stool, but it must be taken whole. Do not crush, divide, or split the tablet.

Short-acting methylphenidate, such as Ritalin, may be taken 2-3 times daily before meals. Concerta should be taken once daily in the morning as it can cause insomnia if taken too late in the day.

Another Friday, another Do You Remember! Now, do you remember the black boxed warnings for donepezil?

If you chose answer C... you are correct! Donepezil does not have a boxed warning for renal impairment, and it does not need to be renal adjusted. However, if a patient is on intermittent hemodialysis, the initial dose of donepezil should be 2.5 mg/day and titrated to 5 mg/day after 1 month.

Do you remember your medications when it comes to pregnancy categories? 🤰
If you chose D. minocycline, you’re on it! Minocycline should be stopped immediately. Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that can cross the placenta and potentially harm the developing fetus (tooth discoloration, bone growth inhibition, and other adverse effects in fetus). There are topical acne treatments safe for use during pregnancy that can replace minocycline (such as topical benzoyl peroxide). Prozac (fluoxetine) is an SSRI antidepressant that is considered safe during pregnancy. Famotidine and Vitamin B6 are generally considered safe to use during pregnancy when taken as directed.

Join us in celebrating International Men's Health Week by empowering men and boys with the knowledge to make healthier, actionable lifestyle choices that have a lasting impact! We are proud to align our efforts with Operation Heart, a critical initiative aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, one of the leading causes of death for men.

Our APhA-ASP leaders are setting an example by incorporating healthy habits into their daily routines, showing that small changes can lead to big health benefits.

Men, it's crucial to remember that you don't have to take these steps alone. Support from friends, family, and your community can make a huge difference. Together, we can make a difference. Let's take charge of our health! ❤️💪

Can you recall the black boxed warning for irinotecan? (Here’s a hint: I run to the can 🏃💨)
If you guessed B, you’re spot on! While many chemotherapy drugs can cause diarrhea, it’s especially notorious with irinotecan. Early onset? Treat it with atropine. Late onset? Loperamide is your go-to! 🚽
