🎓 FROM SETBACK TO STAGE ✊🏾💙

This is what community looks like.

Howard University graduate Mykal Bailey faced a major obstacle before graduation — a $7,500 balance that threatened to stop her from walking across the stage. But the DC community showed up in a major way and helped clear the debt so she could celebrate the moment she earned. 🙌🏾

This weekend, Mykal will officially graduate from Howard University’s Cathy Hughes School of Communications as a Summa Cum Laude graduate. 🔥

Stories like this are a reminder that sometimes all people need is a little support, belief, and community behind them.

Congratulations Mykal — your resilience, excellence, and perseverance are inspiring. HU, YOU KNOW! 🦬💙

From Muriel Bowser to The Mecca 🎓✨

A leader defined by service, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to community, Mayor Bowser continues to make history as the seventh elected mayor of Washington, D.C. A proud fifth-generation Washingtonian, she is the first African American woman elected to three four-year terms as mayor of a major U.S. city—an achievement that speaks to both her impact and the trust she’s earned.

With more than two decades of public service—from Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner to the D.C. Council, and since 2015 as Mayor—her work has remained focused on expanding opportunity and strengthening the fabric of the District. Her leadership has been recognized nationally, including the inaugural Marion Barry Jr. Award for Public Service from the African American Mayors Association.

Through it all, she has led with vision—driving economic growth, increasing access to affordable housing, and guiding the District through unprecedented challenges with clarity and resolve. Her commitment to principled leadership earned her the Exceptional Moral Courage Award from the Truman Center for National Policy. Just as important, she has remained a champion for higher education, creating pathways for student success.

In recognition of her exemplary leadership, Howard University will confer upon her an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.

Please join us in welcoming Mayor Bowser to The Mecca as we prepare to celebrate the Class of 2026—an exceptional group of leaders ready to make their mark.

Excellence in Truth and Service. 💙❤️

🚨 Big News for the Culture 🚨

Former NBA All-Star is stepping into a major leadership role — officially named President of Basketball Operations at Howard University 🏀🔥

This isn’t just a ceremonial title. Wall is expected to play a real, hands-on role in shaping the future of Howard basketball — from player development to program strategy.

After a standout career and one season at University of Kentucky, Wall has made it clear he’s been preparing for this moment, with aspirations of working in a front office at the highest level.

Earlier this year, he even expressed interest in building something special at Howard — and now it’s official.

This move signals something bigger:
💡 Investment in HBCU athletics
💡 Real leadership from those who’ve been there
💡 A new era for Howard basketball

The game is changing… and Howard is making power moves 👑
